I was watching spanish channel news and the anchor said "until something changes we will be waiting here to report on the next massacre" and those words hit me so hard

I think this is a reasonable request.

In light of the recent school shooting I have been reminded that I remember Sandy from when I was probably 9 I remember the day after and all of us were scared I had friends in 3rd grade that brought knifes to school in case the same thing happened to us I remember being on edge that entire day afraid that someone was about to come in at any moment and try to kill us for no reason I remember that being the first time I learned that I was not safe at fucking school. I was only 9. I never forgot that lesson. Now I’m in college and nothing has changed. My entire school experience has been periodical reminders that I was not safe. Shooting after shooting after shooting elementary school through college it is never safe. In high school I had an escape plan for almost every class. I have never felt safe and that sentiment is shared by most of Americans in my generation. We were taught at a very young age that we are not safe at school and nothing has ever changed. There are no laws are protecting us. 14 kids and 1 teacher. And all they get are thoughts and prayers. Not change, not gun control, nothing. I feel sick.
