taylor swift, ticketmaster, and why monopolies kinda suck
so you tried to get eras tour tickets. you sat in that cursed little waiting room, heart racing, snacks untouched, fully prepared to go to war. and then... ticketmaster self-destructed. bots took your spot. resale prices shot up to “sell your kidney on the dark web” levels.
but plot twist: this wasn’t just a tech glitch. it’s economics. specifically: monopoly power. let’s unpack it, swifty-style.
a monopoly is when one company basically owns the whole playground. no competition means they get to:
set the prices stupid high
give you terrible service
shrug when things fall apart
ticketmaster isn’t the only ticketing company technically, but after it merged with live nation in 2010, it gained a whole lot of control over:
the tickets
the venues
even the artists
that’s called vertical integration.
how this turned into the eras tour apocalypse:
demand: 3.5 million+ people signed up
supply: not even close to enough seats
ticketmaster: crashed. burned. bots thrived.
prices: “dynamic pricing” kicked in, aka surge pricing for concerts. seats hit $4k+.
and because they’re so dominant in the market, you didn’t have real alternatives. no other sellers. no options.
technically, it’s legal. but antitrust laws are supposed to stop companies from getting this kind of power. problem is, enforcement is kinda mid.
after the eras disaster, congress actually held a hearing called:
“that’s the ticket: promoting competition and protecting consumers in live entertainment.”
yes. actual senators quoted taylor lyrics in official government docs. this is our timeline.
what this teaches you (besides never trusting ticketmaster):
monopolies = higher prices, worse experiences, no choices
big mergers can quietly make competition disappear
economic policy absolutely affects your real life (even your chance to scream “all too well” live)
Guys as much as I love E/C, I understand it doesn't work in the context of Phantom as a whole. However, I choose to believe that perhaps in those two weeks she was kidnapped, Christine could've helped Erik begin to heal,and alternate storyline could've taken place, and that's what I chose to indulge in.

I KNOW IN LATE BUT I JUST FINISHED WATCHING TORCHWOOD
to anyone who reads this you'll be disappointed because I have so many thoughts I can't even write them down.
But dammit I need more shows like this. I don't know what is was about this show, but it immersed me so much that the season two finale DESTROYED me. It was like a tiny dose of grief. Of course you can't compare it to losing an actual loved one, but it was brutal!!
And I'm so upset that it obviously set up for a fifth season and watching in 2025 and knowing it doesn't get it breaks my heart because it's such a well written show (to my standards at least)
I of course have gripes with it, like how I personally hate messy relationship/shipping drama, which the first season had a teeny but of, so it was a pain to watch but it didn't ruin anything.
For some reason you actually want to know my thoughts on anything specific or just wanna talk about Torchwood (or even some other fandoms I've shown on this blog) asks/inquires are open and very welcome ❤️.

I know we have the DSM-5 (which, apparently, is generally more accurate than the ICD) but I feel like bias, perception, and even pharmaceutical companies have big influence on diagnosis (and possibly even what is put in these diagnostic tools).
The things I previously listed in pink (and influence plus inaccurate/false information for big corporate money reasons) don’t help out with misdiagnosis and such.
But in saying that, we DO have the DSM-5 for a reason, so like, maybe look in it instead of basing these solely off perception.😭
it’s weird to think how many mental disorders are diagnosed less by what the person actually does and more by how others respond to that person. like how in hysterionic personality disorder (off to a great start) a literal diagnostic criteria is the person’s emotions don’t seem convincing, which is obviously going to depend hugely upon a doctor’s personal bias. and in bpd, though it isn’t a criteria, you hear about clinicians diagnosing people based on the “meat grinder sensation” (feeling like their own insides are being ground up while talking to their patient), and with autism based on the “wall of glass phenomenon” (feeling like there is a barrier in reaching the person). they’re such weird ways to talk about people especially when the clinician’s own biases are rarely taken into account.

OMGEEZ, this just has to be addressed, something with the animation community online >_< !!!
I hate that the community is powered by nothing but trends now. Like the recent “Sinking Town” animation memes I’ve seen, they are incredible every time I see them. But tell me why there are other posts with the captions “don’t let this trend end” or “sorry I’m a little late to this trend”
Like…. I hate that so much. An animation meme or just and animation pattern in general shouldn’t be treated as a “trend” or something that lasts for an only a week or two. Animations take a lot of time and I find it disheartening that there are people who are pressured to rush an animation to stay on a trend. That’s just downright ridiculous.
There are animation memes from 2015-2016 that STILL hold up today!
This whole “trend” thing is horrible for the animation community and especially young animators/artists.
It boils my blood seeing the say the internet is now, trends go by too fast, content is just soulless, people are unreasonably mean and ignorant, everybody loves finding excuses to get mad at things. (And I know I’m doing that right now, but that’s because this is important)

The worst thing is I lost my earbud case and now only have the one I was wearing which means I have to get a new set because my phone doesn't have a headphone port
On the plus side I have an interview tomorrow
me since school started schooling:
