Splatoon Ink Headcannons
Hey yall! Some of the main assumptions that I make in this post are related to the Splatoon Manga, which is level 2 cannon. Read with skepticism!
Low tide ink is unique in that it cannot splat an ink based creature, but it can still ink turf normally.
It is often used in specialty organised turf wars among children and sick/disabled cephalopods. They sometimes have issues respawning correctly, so the concept of splatting is removed from the game.
Using low tide ink does not require an ink tank, as it is a low enough density to be exclusively made in the ink sack.
It is often used as bath water, because of it's harmlessness.
As high tide ink is very dangerous, its transport and possession is heavily controlled by the government.
It is considered highly dangerous due to the fact that it permanently kills both ink based and non ink based creatures.
Used by the Military, Police, Assassins, and The Squidbeak Splatoon.
It must be kept in special containers that look a little bit like soy sauce sachets.
Normal weapons cannot use high tide ink, special weapons must be acquired. These weapons look more like modern day weapons.
High tide ink is produced by compressing normal ink and scraping off the top layer of impurities. This process is repeated 5 to 6 times.
Ink based creatures are able to change their own ink colour. Some especially skilled cephalopods can change their tentacle patterns. It makes for a great party trick!

An alternative gem naming system
If you’re watched Steven Universe, you’ve probably seen fan explanations about the Facet & Cut system. The system is okay, however I feel like it lacks potential somewhat. I therefore give you my alternate naming system for your gemsonas.
The structure of the system follows this pattern:
The carat section of the name shows the quality, colour and rank of the gemstone. The notation goes:
Q6-CB-R3
The Q notation represents the quality of the gem, on a scale of 1 to 10. This gem would be about average in terms of strength and other abilities.
The C notation represents the hue of the gem. This gem would be slightly towards the blue side of the spectrum. There can also be other spectrum changes, including R (red), P (pale), and I (rich). The pale term doesn’t reflect a defect in this case. For gems that can be any or many colors, other terms can be used.
The R notation indicates the gem's place in society. This is different from the caste system. The options include:
1 - Builders
2 - Warriors/Soldiers
3 - Servants
4 - Entetainers
5 - Technicians
6 - Supervisors
7 - Colonisers
8 - Scientists
9 - Administration
10 - Pilots
This gem would be some sort of servant, perhaps a Pearl.
This may sound the same as the canonical version, but my formula is somewhat different. It reads:
SCabochon-O GPearl
It can be broken down relatively easily:
The S notation indicates the shape and cut of the gemstone. The first term can either be Cabochon or Cut. The second term represents the overall shape. The example is interpreted as a oval Cabochon. If the first term is cut, however, the name is written.
You can use this method without credit, but feel free to credit anyway.

Requirements for a perfect gem
How to make Jasper, basically.
The mixture of essence must be 100% balcanced and pure.
The surrounding rock must have an unusually high mineral and nutrient content.
NO impurities, either damaging impurities or trace minerals can be present.
The incubation must be unusually hot. I gathered this from the glass around Jasper's emerging hole, where her emergence may have melted the sandstone around her.
The injection surface must be 100% smooth.
I made the criteria deliberately difficult to show just how rare a perfect specimen of a gem is. That’s why Jasper is much higher in the Caste system than you would expect of an ordinaru quartz.

Why Snowflake Obsidian will probably be a main/recurring character
Earlier this year, a member of the @stevencrewniverse accidentally leaked a turnaround/model sheet of Snowflake obsidian. From what I have seen, it seems likely that they will feature critically in the upcoming season of Steven Universe. Here is a list of reasons why:
An official model sheet. This may not seem like much, as even background characters have model sheets, but it was published on a blog with other important character's model sheets ( I.e. Holly blue's, emerald's).
Numerous appearances. Snowflake appears in Change Your Mind, but also features in Steven Universe: the Movie. She has been close on the camera angle both times.
Proximity to Bismuth. She is one of bismuth's friends, and as such we should at least see some interaction between the two.
Anyway, I could be wrong but I think it is probably an interesting thing to consider.

Octo Types
So I noticed a few distinct different types of octoling in splatoon's lore and gameplay, and I thought would share my ideas about them with y’all. Here we go!
These are the Octolings that you see in story mode. Their distinct features include:
Identical hair colour and outfits, basically clones
All female
Ink and Octo forms do not reflect hair.
These Octolings are the playable ones. They have a much softer demeanour than Type 1, and have more variation.
Their entire tentacles change colour with their ink.
Their eyes appear very timid, but also calculating.
Their Octo forms reflect their ink and tentacle colour.
Only two examples of this type exist, Marina Ida and Dedf1sh/Ahato. They have the most variation between individuals. The distinctive features present include:
Compentency with DJ equipment
Coloured fingertips
Tipped hair. In the case of marina, these tips change depending on her team colours.
It could mean nothing, but the differences are so acute that it's unlikely to be meaningless. It could indicate different species, or a type of caste system (I.e. Type 3 work as Idols/remixers, Type 1 work as common soldiers).
Thanks for reading!

Where is Jasper?
So in Steven Universe: the Movie, Jasper isn't shown or even mentioned once. I have a few theories about her possible location.
She may be on a sort of pilgrimage, around Earth or the galaxies nearby. Maybe she's trying to find a place to call home, or maybe she's just thinking and recovering from her trauma, both from Lapis and the Gem War.
She may be on homeworld. I think that this is somewhat unlikely, given her anger at her situation in general, but she could be under the command of the Diamonds again. She would probably be recieving some sort of therapy.
She may be living in Little Homeworld. She would likely be working, either building or something else to keep her mind off all the crazy stuff happening.
Finally, she may be in prison. This is unlikely, but it would make sense. The diamonds would likely adopt laws similar to Earth's. Many of the things she did while pursuing Steven would be considered illegal, so she may be incarcerated due to this.
If you have any other theories I can add, please let me know!
Gem Formation Theory
I have come up with a possible theory as to how gem formation works. A basic formula for it is:
For example: amythests are a purple colour, so a pink and blue diamond essence mixture is injected. They are a type of quartz, so a Silicon Dioxide based rock, such as granite, should be used. Ta da! An amythest!
Organic gems can be created using the same basic process, with a few alterations. Ambers use the same process, but instead of rock, they are injected into trees.
Pearls, specifically, are made not using diamond essence, but narce essence. Narces are the only gems other than the diamonds capable of producing essence that will create gems. The essence is then injected into a specially dug hole in an underwater kindergarten. Ta da! A Pearl!
Finally, trace elements. They are used to change the features of a gem. An example is Amythest 8XJ, whose iron deposits near her injection site caused her curly hair.
I hope this theory is helpful!

⚠️spoilers for the Chase Premeiere ⚠️
Chase isn’t alive. He’s living in a world that’s completely controlled by Anti. That would explain the shaky camera, and that transition at the end.
TSUPD SPOILERS
I was just about to sleep but then I got an idea for a Stanley Parable theory.
Ok here me out: the narrator is Stanley
The “Narrator” is a man who works in an office pushing buttons, and uses Stanley as a self insert of sorts (maybe that just is him) to go on these adventures in his maladaptive daydreams.
If this sounds far fetched, the exact thing has been done before in another game which I don’t want to spoil but I will give the name of if asked.
If this is the case, maybe the narrator has intrusive thoughts/trouble controlling his thoughts; this would explain endings where the narrator doesn’t want anything to happen but Stanley disobeys anyway (Zending, Skip button, etc.)
Like I said before, I was just about to sleep so I’m a bit tired. I just think it’s a neat concept.
in Undertale, it is known that when a monster dies, they turn to dust. at the end of the snowgrave route in Deltarune, you still see Berdly.
he is alive
cold
frozen
but very much A L I V E
Spoilers incoming for FHJY post episode 15 as well as ramblings that attempt to express a coherent theory:
This post is a great point, throwing this theory into the ring, it was Arianwen Abernant.
She 100% got her magic back because it was taken away at the end of Sophmore Year by Cassandra who is now dead. And we know she can teleport and probably has mage hand too. So the second she regained her powers she could teleport right out of that nightmare forest.
What if she’s also been bankrolling the Rat Grinders and or the church of Galicaea (with the money that should have gone to Adaine and Alewyn) and the dragon thing is really a misdirect.
Galicaea is worshipped by a lot of high elves so funding the church would be a way to get back in good graces with Fallinel, and the popularity of Galicaea helps overall in the goal to keep Cassandra from returning.
She and Jace Stardiamond, and potentially Porter (he could be a Paladin of Ankarna who is a giant god, he did make sure Fig didn’t make that oath to Cassandra and his whole thing is rage) are allies and with Kalina were the memebers of the spy’s tongue curse.
“Ragh Barkrock” was Kalina’s hint to that.
Arianwen’s goal for the nightmare king was to restore her family name, and power and riches, and this is a way to do that. She’d be fully on board with taking out Yolanda and making sure Kristen failed and kept Cassandra dead so she can have her powers, and she’s not above manipulating children to get that. She doesn’t have Alewyn to do her dirty work, but Kipperlilly will do, and she even has a hatred of the Bad Kids already.
They’ve got the motive your honour.
All this to say, Oisin would never, it has to be Arianwen Abernant.
all kristen saw was a blue hand, right?
mage hand is usually blue, right?
all I’m saying is it might not have been oisin 🤷🏼♀️
This is beautifully said dude.
So I've been thinking about all the Boxheads and how there is an overall scheme, both to the words they use and to the colour palette
So, the first time they show up, there are two listen and speak sides. This is the first category of box heads -
These show up a few more times but mostly, they're all the most saturated coloured boxheads in the game. They're all also glowing,
Green is often said to be a colour of nature, creativity, hope, calmness but also, of immaturity, greed, possessiveness.
These Boxheads show up near the half of the game. Chapter 7, Down, features the first instance of these folks and they seem hopeful about getting out of the prison and with the way they talk, they do seem a bit childish when you tell them you don't know the exact way thst they could leave.
The next instance of the green head is in Chapter 10, House. Davey the character said that during that period of time Coda seemed the most happy. The character seems a bit shy with their thoughts but overall, there seems to be calmness and peace in that routine.
So, both instances of green show kinda that calm vibe from someone telling us to do a thing - either a house choir or answer their question but overall, I do feel calmness meaning works the best for these. These are games Coda made when he already met Davey and was pre-'depression'. They are bith commands and actions but even if you don't have a choice, you don't exactly feel forced to do anything.
Green will show up once again later in the game.
Yellow (tumblr doesn't have yellow, pls just pretend) often symbolises hope, intellect, but also deceit and faithlessness. It's also supposed to grab attention. Opposite to it is purple, to which Magenta can be seen as subcolour (or just colour close enough on the spectrum jshsu) . It can mean emotional balance but also can mean despair.
These beautifully fit with the theme of Chapter 11 Lecture. The student wants to listen to the professor/coach and feel better about themselves, get motivated to do anything. In the meantime, the teacher seems smart with everything they're saying until you get to see the other greyed out options they have. And due to the informality of coaching and one sided nature of it, 'talk' fits way more than 'speak', though that could be debated since speeches are typically also said to a crowd. But they're more often formal - and since we as a Player can control the coach, we can get very personal with all the little confessions of his mind.
As I said though, green will make a return. Not as a verb, however - but as an empty space, surrounded by the
The previous category was quite consistent with he word class they used. The next two will mix a bit in one level but let's not get ahead of ourselves.
The theme of depression and isolations starts in Chapter 12, Theatre. This is the most unique Boxhead as each side has different words, beside one which is empty green.
Blue symbolises freedom, trust, confidence, reflection, honesty but also passiveness, coldness, depression. The narrator from this chapter wants to relive a moment with this possible idol of theirs. Each side seems to be a positively charged adjective (wise, successful, focused. happy) . However, instead of talking to them, we keep hearing comments of how we just don't act correctly. Mixing this with greens from earlier, the possessiveness for nostalgia of this exact moment, the childishness of the narrator throwing a tantrum when we don't even know the script and the bars at the end of the chapter all kinda show why Davey might have interpreted this as a shout for help.
Chapter 13, Mobius.
There are different messages on these Boxheads - Blind, Captain, Research and Truth. All of these, expect for Blind can count as a noun. However, blind doesn't have to only be an adjective - it can also be a verb, together with Research.
Red can mean desire, confidence, determination but also danger, rage, impulsiveness. Pink has similar enough meanings to Magenta so I'll skip repeating myself.
While social anxiety and nostalgia were quite a strong theme in the prev chapter, this one, as Davey said himself is not as much of a denial like the last one, but acceptance of the state Coda seems to be in. Somehow, the obsession of creation that shows up as the Puzzle Door coming at us, the lammpost stands near us, just like the truth, witnessing the fall of a creator. The rage of not being able to feel passion anymore is stopped the moment we choose the response Truth wants from us. There is a desire hidden in there, a self reflection but it's not as strong as the previous Magenta usage.
You also can see an interesting phenomenon - the first characters you meet are full Blinds, so, adjectives, then you meet Captain and Research that show the first usage of noun and then you meet Truth.
It's as if there was a progressions... Haha what if the next ones would be also nouns,, nah that can't be the -
So the next Boxheads you meet are in Chapter 15, Machine.
We return to the Yellows but before that, we see a Guard who's the only case of White text. But, I'd also like to point that yellows were used in the beginning for the coach which was in the verbs group. But if you think about it - both guard and press can serve as both nouns and verbs.
Grey can mean neutrality, compromise, stability but also coldness, depression, predictability. Together with the Yellow, the cold attitude of the reporter who goes to the Machine, starts to give their own meaning to its silence, getting the press against it and causing destruction.
It is rather interesting thst in the end, we returned to verbs and yellows. This is ofc just an oversimplification but let me show you the colour wheel based on the usage of colour for the Boxhead
We go full circle.
In TBG, repetition and reoccurring themes are constantly visible. Some sort of a prison, the puzzle games, even the lamppost but also, isolation, self doubts, fight as a creator. And this repetition shows through npcs, too. You could count Notes chap 8 as that too and revert first in the circle but overall, things seem to stay overall the same.
For the word class - we go from action to description to a role. Davey first describes what Coda used to do, then focuses a lot on telling us insights on how Coda was at the time of making certain games and then starts becoming not only a Friend but a Saviour. And Coda, from acting, sees he becomes an object to adore and talk about and then, to serve Davey a role of getting appreciation and acceptance for Coda's work. But in the end, Davey decides to publish game in the end. Even with the self reflection, even if he leaves us, the game still exists. And while Davey the character and the real Davey are diff people, Davey the char did say that he uploaded it.
The themes in this linear game keep on repeating, showing up, again and again, creating a closed off cycles. But neither Coda nor Davey the char are present in the end.
You, however, are.
Just like you are here, witnessing me doing a Davey with my interpretation on this jauahahau
