the empty side of the bed. his side of the bed. empty.
“how could you?” you yelled, throwing the letters in his face. “how could i? how could i?! you're never here? never-” he paused, brushing his fingers in-between the locks of his hair “it was a mistake.” he muttered, before locking in your eyes.
“a mistake sirius! a mistake is spilling your drink everywhere! a mistake is dropping something! starting a relationship with someone, let alone our friend. that isn't a mistake!” you spit back, back before storming into your room, slamming the door closed.
him with her. her of all people. her. what did she have that you didn't? you were there for him through everything. through hogwarts. through the war. you and him. he threw it all away for her.
sirius knocked on the door, throwing you out of your thoughts. "i'm sorry, please forgive me." you stood behind the door before walking to the bed and sitting down. "peach? i'm sorry. please forgive me. I'll do anything to make it right."
"please go away. i'm going to bed, when i wake i don't want you to be here." you slowly sulked into your bed. the bed you and him have slept in for the past years. the bed, you had made love, had spilled secrets, had cried in.
"i understand peach" you could hear his footsteps retract from the door. hearing the ruffling of things before hearing the front door open and close.
you groaned before fully getting up. wiping your face from the eye dust, before walking into your shared bathroom. thinking of what'll happen when you see him next.

|PICTURES DO NOT BELONG TO ME|
The Potters were well known amongst their loved ones for their famous Christmas Party. James’ parents, even though aging, continued with their parties, and the lot of you attended every year.
After James and Lily got married they started hosting holiday gatherings as well. It was a bit more of an inner circle than what James’ parents did. But you all looked forward to it every year.
“Hold on..I got this!” James assured us as he struggled to open the box in his hand.
Little Harry laughed at his fathers clear struggle, earning a grin from James. Lily looked at James strangely.
“James,” Lily plucked the box from him, “It’s already opened.” Lily opened the box with ease.
A fit of hysterical laughter filled the room.
You were resting on your boyfriend's legs, listening and joining in on conversation as your head rested on his thighs and your hands were intertwined across your stomach.
“Y’know,” Sirius began, “This reminds me of when we won that quidditch match against Ravenclaw and James got drunk as shit-“
“Sirius!” Multiple voices chastised
“Whoops.” Sirius grinned, not even trying to seem guilty. Sirius was spread across a love seat while his boyfriend sat on the floor in front of him.
“I think it’s time for Harry to go to bed.” James said, rushing towards Harry as if Sirius’ swear word would poison his son.
“Not yet, you know he gets fussy when he goes to bed too soon.” Lily stopped her husband
“Yeah, Jamie,” Marlene jokes, “It’s a holiday, let the kid stay up.”
“You’re only saying that because you’ve never had to deal with a fussy baby.” Dorcas pointed out
Marlene snorted, “Of course I have, I used to have to babysit my siblings when my parents went out. I’ve dealt with plenty of fussy babies.” The blonde corrected her wife.
“Thanks for volunteering to take care of Harry, Marls.” James teased as he gently plopped the four year old in Marlene’s lap.
Marlene’s eyes looked as though they were going to pop out of her head as Harry tried to reach for Marlene’s bottle of beer.
“Uh, love, a little help here.” Marlene begged her wife quietly.
“I thought you were used to fussy babies.” Dorcas teased
“I was, but that was a long time ago!” Marlene shrieked as she tried to keep the bottle of alcohol away from the persistent toddler.
“I’ll take him.” Sirius scooped Harry up from Marlene’s lap, “I’m his godfather, I’m amazing when it comes to these types of things.” He said proudly
“You called us crying because Harry got a paper cut.” Lily deadpanned
“It was a bad paper cut!” Sirius exclaimed
“It did look pretty bad.” James agreed quietly with his brother
Sirius grinned, feeling victorious.
Lily sent James a look, “But you did make it seem like Harry was dying.” James said quietly
Sirius gasped and pointed at Lily, “How dare you turn him against me. I thought we were closer than this, prongs.” Sirius feigned hurt, “Moony, Wormy, back me up here.”
“Leave me out of it.” Remus said
“I’m sure you meant well, Sirius.” Peter said in a slight sarcastic voice
“Thank you, wormy.” Sirius chose to ignore Peter's tone.
“I do not understand how you deal with toddlers all the time, Lils. First, you and James, then Alice and Frank.” Marlene commented
“How is Alice and Frank?” Lily asked, suddenly very curious about one of her closest friends.
Marlene shrugged, “Good. Me and Dorcas went over for dinner earlier this week. Their little mutant clinged to my leg the entire time.” The blonde complained.
“It was sweet, he likes you.” Dorcas teased
“Tell that to the slobber left on my good pants.”
“I'm glad to hear that.” Lily said, “I got a letter from Mary yesterday morning as well.”
“How's our sunshine doin?” Sirius asked
“She and Emmeline are traveling right now…she thinks Emmeline is going to propose!” Lily's excitement was obvious.
“About time.” Sirius spoke up, “How long have they been together? Since third year?”
“Sixth year.” Lily corrected
“You’re next, Moony.” Peter said teasingly
“Yeah, Moony, when are you going to pop the question.” Sirius was only joking. All of them knew why Remus hadn’t proposed.
“Just be patient, pads.” Remus jokes
Sirius snorted, “You sound like my little brother. Though he and his blonde friend were a thing, then I found out he’s seeing some muggle from France.”
“Regulus?” Peter questioned
Sirius nodded, “The boys a blonde and everything.” Sirius looked towards Marlene, jokingly.
“Must be hot then.” Marlene jokes.

Remus had already changed into his pajamas and climbed into bed. He was only waiting for you to come to bed so he could fall asleep.
Meanwhile, you paced in the living room of your shared cottage. You sent occasional glances towards the basket that held the vials of potion your mom had produced for you.
“Love?” Remus called from the stairs
“In here!” You called back, you shuffled your feet in nervousness.
What if he didn’t like it? What if he thought you were trying to fix him? What if it doesn’t work?
Remus peeked his head in the doorway and smiled at you, making your heart melt in love.
“What’cha doin? It’s late.” He walked towards you and stiffened when he saw your uncomfortable posture.
“A-are you okay?” He asked worriedly
You managed a small smile and stepped towards him, straight into his arms and rubbed his back. Mostly to calm yourself.
“I have a present for you.” You whispered
Remus hummed in confusion, he hadn’t heard you, you realize.
“I have a present for you.” You said louder, pulling back from his chest but keeping his arms around his waist as his arms stayed around your shoulders.
His brows furrowed, “Okay?”
You sighed, stepping back and walking towards the basket, “Sit down.” You said
You heard shuffling and the creak of your chair.
Gently, you pulled a single vial from the basket and walked over to him. Without making eye contact you sank to your knees beside him.
He eyed your figure and chuckled nervously, “You’re freaking me out a bit..”
You sighed regretfully, “it’s nothing bad. I promise. It’s just..I’m worried you might not..like it?” You said for lack of better word
Remus smiled softly and squeezed your hand, resting on his thigh reassuringly, “Whatever it is, I’m sure I will love it.”
You smiled back and handed him the vial of potion.
His face contorted back to one of confusion.
“Look at the label.” You said quietly, scanning his face for his reaction.
You watched him turn the bottle over and read the label. Once…twice..three times.
“Is this..” he said with a disbelieving tone
“It’s Wolfsbane. I’ve got plenty of more in the basket over there.” You motioned towards the basket, “My mom made it so it should work perfectly.”
His face didn’t change.
“Rem..” you said in an anxious voice.
“How..why..?” His voice broke
“I know you’ve read about it in the “Daily Prophet” about a hundred times. I asked my mom..I paid for the ingredients and my mom brewed it. For you.”
Remus took in a shaky breath and looked at you with tear-filled eyes, “You shouldn’t have.” He said, holding back tears.
You sat up and wrapped your arms around his shoulder, “I wanted to. I know how much you’ve wanted this..how much you need this. You deserve every last vile and much more.”
Remus let out a sob and buried his head into your chest.
“Thank you, thank you.” He pulled you into his lap, and buried his face into your neck, “I don’t deserve you.”
You whispered sweet things into his ear as he cried. He only continued to hold you tighter.
When pulled back from your neck you cupped his cheeks and wiped his tears from his face.
He continued to mutter words of gratitude as he pulled you into a kiss. The kiss was full of so much adoration and love, as you knew he was trying to express how grateful he was.
“I love you.” He said
“I know, and I love you too.”
As the two of you went to bed that night, wrapped in each other's arms, there was a new feeling, one that you knew Remus could feel too. It was a new sort of understanding between you and your lover, one that you were sure would last the rest of your lives.

" Stop it James" Mrs. Potter scolded slapping him lightly on the arm while you all laughed. "Come on Mum! Its nothing they haven't seen before" he said earning another slap and a chuckle from his Father. "Now you five run along, go to the store or something, take 5 pounds out of my wallet and we don't want you lot back till dinner you hear?" Mr. Potter called as you ran to the front door with the rest of the boys. "What are we gonna buy?" You asked while James chuckled " I don't know, Boys?" He asked while they all called out different answers.

Your eyes fluttered open at the crisp sound of the common room’s fire. Taking a few moments to get fully conscious, you noticed the scene around you: you were cocooned into James’ lap, your head resting against his neck. He was snoring softly while holding you tightly in an old armchair. You two had about five different pieces of homework due tomorrow, but after a long day, you had agreed to “rest a little” after dinner. By the looks of it, you two had rested much more than a little. Delicately moving James’ head, you looked around. Besides you and James, there were only a few students and Remus, who was entertained with a book near the tables.
- Remus? - Your voice came out hoarsely - What time is it?
- Good morning, sunshine - He giggled - It’s a little after nine, I think.
- Nine? Oh, shit… - You turned to wake James up, your heart suddenly racing with the amount of work you had to do in such little time. But when you looked at James, he was sleeping so peacefully into you, his thick lashes resting softly against his flushed cheeks, that adorable pout he made when he was deeply asleep. If you didn't have so much to do, you would never have the heart to wake him up.
- Baby? - You kissed his cheek delicately - Baby, wake up. We have work to do.
You brushed his hair out his face when he fussed.
- C’mon, Jamie, it’s already past nine…
- No - James pushed you into him and snuggled you further - Let’s stay here.
- Jamie…
- Knock it off - Being the big baby he always was, he held you tightly so you couldn't move, the same way he did when you woke him up in the mornings.
Fighting against his strong arms, you were able to free yourself, even if he kept trying to hold on into whatever he could, in this case, your hand. Using all your strength, you started pushing him into Remus’ table.
- Stop being a baby and let’s just do it, alright?
He groaned loudly, but allowed you to drag him. You sat him down on a chair and he rubbed his eyes sleepily.
- We have a lot of things to do, and if we want to sleep tonight, we’ll have to hurry up, okay?
- Aye aye, captain - James yawned.
- So, we have… - you checked a piece of parchment in which you had written down a to-do list before dinner - Five different subjects to do homework for.
- How have we built up that much homework? - James inquired, astonished.
- Because you distract me
- I distract you? - James snickered - More like the other way around!
- Oh, yeah? - You crossed your arms and raised a playful eyebrow at him - How’s that so?
- You know how… - James pulled you in for a kiss.
- My god, get a room - Remus grimaced from his seat.
- Alright, let me see - you bend down to your backpack, placed near the edge of the table. - Charms… - you started listing while placing your heavy books on the table and bending back down - DADA… Herbology… Potions… Divination…
Remus snorted from his seat.
- What? - You asked, confused.
- Nothing… - Remus hid his amused smile behind his book.
- What was that about? - You asked James.
- Dunno. - He shrugged and stretched - There’s no way I’m going to stay awake for all that unless I go wash my face or something. I’ll just go to the bathroom then we’ll get started, alright? Be right back.
- Don't you dare try to escape this, James Potter! - You warned him as he walked away.
- Never, baby - He teased, throwing you a kiss.
He disappeared into the bathroom, leaving you and Remus all alone. You started sorting out the books into piles in James’ absence, quickly realizing you had forgotten to get some parchment for the Charms essay. Reaching to your backpack, you ended up hitting your head on the sharp edge of the mahogany table.
- Ouch! - you exclaimed, quietly.
Once again, you heard Remus’ giggle on the other side of the table.
- What are you laughing about, uh? - You asked while applying pressure to the bang in a useless try to minimize the pain.
- Nothing. - Remus smiled and you gestured for him to keep on talking. He sighed and put his book down - It’s just… It’s just that you and James are too cute, that’s all.
- And that makes you laugh?
- Yes, because I find it adorable.
- Can you elaborate, maybe?
- Ah, you know… - Remus gestured dismissively, but quickly noticed your confused expression and smiled - You really don’t know, do you?
- Know what?
- When you were getting your books - Remus put his book down to explain - James kept his hand on the edge of the table so you wouldn’t hurt yourself. He always does that, almost subconsciously at this point. When he left, you bumped against it because you are unconsciously used to having his hand there to protect you. And I don’t know… that’s just really cute.
Remus returned his attention to the book and left you alone with your thoughts. Did James really do that all the time? Just to make sure you wouldn’t get hurt, like you just did? You genuinely never noticed. You were flooded with a nice, warm feeling inside your chest, one that only James could bring you. Remus was right: it was cute. But… What if James does that because he finds you clumsy, graceless even? You wouldn’t want him to think you are that uncoordinated, so much so that he had to help you with it. You were clumsy, to be honest. Accidentally tripping, bumping against furniture, dropping your books, forgetting things… It was a daily occurrence for you, but you were used to it. You didn’t want James to think he had to worry about it.
Did he really do that?
- Oi - James’ return ripped you off your thoughts - Ready? We could start with DADA, maybe?
You had to see it yourself.
- Yes, perfect. Lemme just… get a quill.
James nodded and started opening his book. When you bent, you noticed James’ hand slipping towards the edge absentmindedly, almost like a second nature. When you straightened up, Remus’ smirk was visible.

The fifth year’s Astronomy class was assembled in the tower for an exam, which consisted of staying up very late to watch the night sky and fill your charts with specific planets’ positions. You all had been extremely unlucky of having said test scheduled on an extremely cold night, so cold that not even the owls were flying out of the owlery.
- It should be a crime to get us out here on this temperature - Sirius complained while shivering violently. - Hey, if we die or something at least we’ll die knowing Venus’ position at 2 AM, am I right?
Everyone had come covered in multiple layers of clothing, including their heaviest cloaks, scarfs, gloves and hats, and even then, everyone was chilled to the bone. You weren’t so bothered by the cold, since you had James, the human stove, to keep you warm. The only part of your body that was positively freezing was your hands. Because of your usual distraction, you had forgotten to get gloves before leaving your dorm. If you told James, he’d probably give up his own gloves for you, but ever since Remus pointed out James’ habit of saving you from your own clumsiness, you were really trying to show James you were independent, or at the very least, hide your distracted nature and show him you can take care of yourself. Except that was never your speciality. One way or another, you had your mind set, so you’d have to settle with icy hands tonight.
- No one will be dying tonight, mr. Black - your teacher, Miss Vickers, replied to Sirius with a sardonic tone.
James muffled a laugh.
- See, Pads? No one is dying. If it gets too bad, you can always get some dog fur, if you know what I mean.
- Right. Too bad some antlers won’t help at all.
James snuggled his chin between your neck and shoulder.
- Are you cold, lovie?
- No, I’m fine, Jamie - you whispered back, rubbing your cheek against his.
Forgetting about your new facade, you raised your hands to caress James’ curls. By doing so, he felt the extreme coldness of your hands.
- Y/N! Your hands are freezing! - James exclaimed worringly - Where are your gloves?
- In my pocket - you lied.
- And why are they in your pockets, and not your hands? - He mocked, lowering his head to stare at your side profile.
- Because I’m not cold - you lied, again, embarrassed.
- Right, cause ice lolly hands are super comfy - James snickered - C’mere.
With a swift but gentle movement, James made you face him. He pulled you into his arms, and used his glove clad hands to put yours inside his cloak’s pockets. You almost moaned in satisfaction when James took off his gloves and started rubbing your fingers with his warm palms
- You are really silly, you know that? - Your head, snuggled against his heartbeat, bobbed when his chest rumbled with a giggle. He rocked you both back and forth slightly while you enjoyed James’ warmth, his familiar scent, the comfortable sound of his heartbeat.
- You should’ve told me you had forgotten your gloves. - He smiled down at you.
- You could just have given me yours, that would’ve worked…
- I like this better - James hummed, placing his chin on the top of your head.

- It’s very simple, I swear. We just have to place the sweets on their table before dinner, and they’ll 100% eat it
Sirius was explaining to you and the Marauders the new prank he planned to pull on the Slytherins. This time around, he had made bonbons filled with a cream he had come up with. The cream was made out of Mandrake roots, something Sirius had discovered made anyone who ate it talk in a high-pitched voice for two days.
- Don’t you think they’ll find it weird that no other table has them? - Remus pointed out.
- Look at those guys! - Sirius pointed to the Slytherin table - Do you think they notice what everyone else is doing? And even if they notice, they are so self-absorbed they will think it’s a prize for being better than everyone else or something…
- Actually, that could work. - James chimed in while mindlessly rubbing circles around your leg - We can fake a note from Slughorn, and they’ll punch themselves to get the box.
You looked at your wrist watch while they discussed. Between the boys’ talk and James' caresses, you had lost track of time, and now you had five minutes to go all the way to the other side of the castle if you didn’t want to be late for Transfiguration.
- Oh my God! James, we have to go! - You couldn’t be late to McGonagall’s class again: the last time you did, she scolded both you and James for, in her own words, “lovebirding around forgetting about your education”.- Bye guys, see you later. You bid the Marauders goodbye. On light speed, you gathered your books and started leaving, presuming that James would follow. You were midway to the Great Hall’s door when he called you out:.
- Wait!
- Jamie, we’re late!
- I know, but there’s something I have to do.
When he finally reached you, he kneeled down.
- Baby, what are you doing? She will kill us both if we’re late again…
Your words trailed off when James put your feet on his lap and started lacing your shoes. Only then you noticed that you had been walking around with your shoelaces untied for God knows how long. You felt your cheeks getting warm.
- Done. - James smiled up at you when he finished securing the knots. He got up and kissed your lips softly, one hand caressing your cheek, as always.
- I know how to tie my shoes, y’know. - you grumbled.
- Yeah. I just… wanted to do it for you.
- Thank you, Jamie.
- Of course. Can’t have my girl stumbling around, can I? Let’s go before Minnie kills us.
4.
- Are we going to Madam Puddifoot’s first?
You looked around Hogsmeade. You only had the chance to come here every once in a while, so everytime you and James’ class had a Hogsmeade weekend, you tried to make the most out of it.
- I was thinking we save Madam Puddifoot’s for last.
- Sounds perfect. So where do we go first?
- Could be… Honeydukes?
- Ugh, baby… - James groaned
- What?
- I’m a little tired of Honeydukes, to be honest.
- Why, not everyone gets to rob its basement every month, like you and the boys do!
- I never rob it! I always put money in the register! - James threw his hands in the air defensively - I even leave tips!
- Aren’t you my little goody two-shoes. - You pinched his pink cheeks playfully.
- Plus, I always bring you sweets!
- Yeah, yeah, alright… But I like going there! It’s pretty, and it always smells amazing there. - You smiled sheepishly and batted your lashes at James’ - Can we please, please go?
James stared at your theatrical request with an amused smirk.
- Alright… let’s go.
James held your hand and started following the flow of students heading towards the shop through the snowy streets.
- Thank you so much! - You kissed his cheek soundly.
- You are the most spoiled girl in Hogwarts, did you know that? - He elbowed your rib playfully.
- And who’s fault is that? - You giggled at him.
At Honeyduke’s, you and James made the rounds collecting all your personal favorites: liquorice wands, sugar quills, chocolate toads, and an obscene amount of cauldron cakes. When you both couldn’t find anything else in your baskets, you joined the line to pay.
- Feels weird to not get the sweets and just run? - You teased.
- You never complain when I bring you a dozen caldron cakes each time, do you? - James rolled his eyes at you while smiling.
- Hi, James!
You turned around to find Amos Diggory, captain of the Hufflepuff’s Quidditch team, standing behind you two. Despite James' competitiveness in the field, he always got along very well with Amos.
- Oh, hi, Amos! How are you? - James shook his hand amicably.
- I’m doing well. Taking Mrs Potter shopping, I see?
- Yeah - James smiled brightly while your face burned in a violent blush violent
Every time McGonagall scolded you and James for being late, she graced you both with a nickname. Last week, she referred to the pair of you as “Mr and Mrs Potter”. Sirius instantly adopted the nickname, especially to tease James about being whipped. Somehow, other people heard of it and your friends started using it in a light-hearted manner. James found it all extremely funny, and even though it always made you shy, you secretly loved it.
- You know what they say, the way to a woman’s heart is through her stomach.
They both chatted about the upcoming matches until you reached the register.
- That will be four galleons - Mrs Flume announced after checking your baskets.
James reached for his pocket, but you touched his hand to stop him.
- I will pay, today.
- And why should I let you do that?
- Cause I want to spoil you, too - You booped his nose.
When you reached for the little purse where you kept your money, however, your smile fell. You had forgotten to grab your money due to your distraction.
- I, um… I think I forgot to grab my purse - you admitted, embarrassed to let your inattentiveness show once again.
James simply smiled, and handed Mrs Flume the golden coins. She busied herself with putting your purchases in a box.
- I’ll pay that back to you.
- No, you won’t. I won’t take it.
- Yes, you will. I forgot, but I want to pay for it.
- Except you won’t, cause I want to pay this for you.
- You always pay for everything!
- And since when is that bad?
- Cause I wanna give you things, too!
- Trust me, you give me plenty - he smiled suggestively at you, earning a slap in his arm.
- James! You called me spoiled an hour ago!
- And you are.- He smirked - But I like spoiling you.
Exasperated, you threw your hands up in defeat.
- Ugh!
James grazed your cheek with his hand soothingly.
- C’mon, if I can’t use my money to spoil little Mrs. Potter, what am I supposed to do with it?
+ 1
You and James were near the lake, laying down under an orange tree, studying for exams. It was a sunny afternoon in which you both wanted nothing but to throw your books in your trunks and go do something outside. Since you really needed the study time, you two had to find a middle ground: studying in the garden, where you could at least enjoy the sweet summer breeze and the sunlight. You had been deeply concentrated in your books when a delicious whiff of the plump, sugary oranges above you had invaded your nostrils, making your mouth water. You were able to grab one from a lower branch, and now you were anxiously trying to peel it with a small knife.
- Hey, pretty girl - You were distracted from your task by James’ lips grazing the warm skin of your cheek - Want me to do that for you?
- Thank you, Jamie, but I can do it - You snickered at him, even if you never actually learned how to properly do it, and he knew that - I got it.
- Can I do it for you, please? - He smiled. You gave in, and gently removed the orange and the knife from your hands
You watched as he skillfully peeled the skin off the fruit. In no time he got the orange separated in two halves, handing you one happily. James leaned against the body of the tree, pushing you to sit back between his legs and lean into his chest. You both sat there, contently eating the sweet but slightly acidic fruit.
James does a lot of things for you. Way too many, perhaps. He didn’t let you peel an orange, for Christ’s sake! Does it bother him, feeling like he has to do things for you so you won’t mess it up?
- I know how to peel an orange. - You turned to face him - I really do.
- I know, doll.
- I can do it. Seriously.
James thought to himself for a moment.
- Have you ever heard the theory that a perfect couple is composed of one person who loves oranges, but sucks at peeling them, and another person who loves oranges, and is great at peeling?
- I know how to peel fruit! - You stated.
- Of course you do. You just suck at it. - He smirked at you, amusedly throwing another piece in his mouth.
You let out a sigh in frustration. Nervously, you turned to face him completely.
- James, listen… I don’t want… I don’t want you to think I’m useless.
James’ smile fell off his face.
- What? What are you talking about, sweetheart? - he worriedly reached for your hands - Why would I think you’re useless?
- Because… - You run your hands through your hair - Because you are always doing things for me. Tying my shoelaces, warming my hands because I’m an idiot and I forget my gloves, things like that and I just… I appreciate it but I don’t want you to do these things because you think I’m incapable.
You could see the engines turning in James’ head as he pondered. All of a sudden, he started laughing.
- You think I do that because I think you are incapable?
- Well, yes! - You lowered your head - I know I’m kinda distracted but I don’t want to be a burden or anything…
- Hey. - James used his index finger to lift your head, forcing you to look into his incisive, but soft gaze - You are never a burden. And that’s not why I do it, at all. I do these things because it’s my way of showing you I care for you. But I understand if it makes you feel lessened, and not loved, and I can find new ways to care for you, if that’s wh…
- No! - You exclaimed, stroking his cheek - I love it. And it does make me feel very loved. I’m just… silly. I guess I don’t want you to feel obliged to do things for me, that’s all.
- Baby. - James smiled and held your face between his warm, orange-scented palms. - When I tie your shoelaces, I know you can do it, obviously. But it makes me feel happy that I even get to do that for you, you understand? And it’s like that with everything else I do. I love taking care of you because I love you.
Your heart warmed at his words.
- So you don’t think I’m clumsy?
- Actually, I do - he smirked.
You slapped his arm and turned away from him.
- I’m sorry, I'm sorry - he reached for you again - You are… distracted. Almost as much as you are distracting. But I like it. Makes me feel like a knight in shining armor.
- I’m not distracted! - You narrowed your eyes at him.
- You are, doll - He soothed you amusingly - A little teeny bit.
- Oh, yeah? I would’ve peeled us this orange myself if you weren’t so… nosy!
James gasped in a dramatic manner.
- I’m nosy? - You shook your head yes in defiance - Yeah? Are you sure?
James threw himself at you to attack your sides with tickles, the most powerful weapon he has against you. You both rolled around in the blanket you had brought from your dorm while you laughed so hysterically you couldn’t breathe. James couldn’t help but laugh too, infected by your laughter.
- Stop! Stop! - you begged, tears rolling down your face.
- Only if you say I’m not nosy.
- You are not nosy! - You shouted, and James finally stopped the tickling.
You were laying underneath him, and when the laughter died down, James stayed on top of you, watching your flushed face with loving eyes. A sweet summer breeze passed you both, making your hair fly. He carefully placed the rebel strand behind your ear.
- Great. Now, say: “I love you, Jamie, my beautiful amazing perfect boyfriend and thank you for peeling every orange I’ll ever eat for the rest of my life”
- I’m not going to say that after you just attacked me! No way! - You laughed.
- Yeah? Then get ready for another tickling attack!
When he placed his hands back on your sides to resume the torture, you panicked.
- No! No! Fine! I love you, Jamie, my beautiful amazing perfect boyfriend and thank you for peeling every orange I'll ever eat for the rest of my life!
- Perfect - he kissed your lips delicately.
- That’s a lot of oranges, you know.
- What?
- Every orange I’ll eat for the rest of my life - You grinned, lifting your hands to trace his features with your finger - That’s a lot of oranges.
- I know - He gave you that full teeth smile, the one that made his dimples pop before kissing your palm - You love oranges.
- I do.
- At least you will never have to risk chopping your fingers off, since your amazing boyfriend will take care of it. - He explained playfully. - You can be clumsy safely.
You pouted at him angrily and crossed your arms.
- You don’t scare anyone with that face, missy - He snickered and lowered his head to kiss you again. - You are too adorable when you are angry.
James hummed happily against your mouth when the kiss deepened. He rolled you both around so you could straddle him.
- You taste so sweet - He breathed against your mouth.
- Like oranges, maybe?
- Yes, precisely.
- Like the ones you peel for me because I’m distracted? - You sneered softly.
- Yes, just like the ones I peel for you because I love you.

1.
- Hi, Jamie - you went to give him a quick kiss hello when you met at the hallway. When you distanced yourself, he pouted.
- Another one - he begged. You did as told, but when you distanced yourself a second time, he sighed in exasperation - Come here, will ya?
He held your face with his strong hands as he kissed you for a long moment. Your heart went crazy on your chest with the familiar taste of his lips and the warmth of his palms. When the kiss ended, he pulled away slowly, but kept his hands on your face, delicately brushing a few rebel strands of hair away.
- I’ll take this as you’ve missed me? - you teased, your eyes glimmering in the way they only do when you’re around James.
- Are you teasing me, missy? - he faked an overdramatic expression of offense.- And me here, thinking that you’ve missed me too, after such a long time we’ve been apart!
- We’ve had one separate class, drama queen. - you rolled your eyes at him.
- Well for me, it was a lot. But if you don’t miss your boyfriend, that’s fine… - He faked a hiccup and cleaned an imaginary tear from his eye.
- I’ve seen you this morning - you lowered your voice into a knowing whisper - Remember?
He dropped the act at the mention of the earlier morning and smirked in that cheeky way that made your heart beat two times faster.
- How could I forget…- He reached to snake his arms around your waist.
- Shh! James, stop. I think I’ve heard someone - You stepped away from him. You had heard talking somewhere around the corner of the empty hallway you were both in. You and James kept a distance as a group of third years passed by. They giggled when they recognized James Potter, the Quidditch captain, and your boyfriend, being the tease he was, waved at them, making them almost faint.
- They would miss me if i was their boyfriend, y’know - He said, and just like you predicted, he was wearing that pompous smirk he had when these things happened.
- You’ve eaten a little clown for breakfast today? - You rolled your eyes at him.
- No need to get that jealous of your competition, Y/N. - You crossed your arms and frowned. He laughed, placing his arms around you. - Even though you don’t miss me, you’re my favorite girl.
- Even though you’re a smug prick, I did miss you. A lot.
- A lot? But it was just one class… - He mocked your previous words in a high pitched tone.
- It was one class too many - Your heart turned into mush as you looked into his eyes, not being able to keep yourself from kissing him again.
Just a month before, being with him like this was just a beautiful, distant daydream in your head. You both were pining and longing for each other, handling what you both thought was an unrequited love for your best friend. Now, you and James were into that honeymoon phase of the relationship where you just couldn’t keep your hands (or your mouths) off from each other. That was logistically complicated, since you had decided to go slow and keep things a bit more private. You were just discovering the sweetness of finally belonging to one another, and you had the opinion that the gossip that would obviously arise from your relationship would take away some of that joy. So, for now, you were happy keeping it just between you two and the Marauders.
- What class do we have now?
- Hmmm...Charms? Yeah, I think so. I’ll meet you there, I gotta give McGonagall some papers.
- Alrighty - you agreed, getting on your tiptoes to kiss his cheek. - Don’t take too long.
- I think we both know I can’t stay away from you too long - he smiled.
James walked the hallways in that strut that he liked to deny having. Everyone was already inside the classrooms to resume the classes after lunch. He knocked on McGonagall’s door.
- Turn to page 278 to read about Vero Verto - James heard the professor’s voice getting closer to the door as she instructed the first year students she was teaching. - Silently.
- Good morning, Minnie. - He greeted McGonagall with a smile.
- Hm, good morning, Potter - He adored McGonagall, and he knew she liked him too, specially for bringing Gryffindor multiple Quidditch championships, but the professor was never one to smile loosely. However, the way she was scanning his face through her half moon glasses, her eyebrows furrowing even more than usual, made him uneasy.
- I just passed by to bring my homework, and… -
- What is that on your face, Potter? - She questioned abruptly. Her question caught the students’ attention, and all eyes turned to James. The room erupted with laughter.
- Silence! - She commanded, her harsh tone making them quiet down, settling for muffled giggles and whispers.
- On my face? - James touched his cheek.
- Yes, Potter. There is a lipstick stain on your cheek.
He felt the blood draining from his face: Y/N’s lipstick must have stained his skin when she kissed him.
- Ah, that’s nothing, Minnie - he brushed his cheek aggressively. The rubbing must have only smeared the lipstick, because the class bursted into an even louder fit of giggles, this time followed by kissing sounds. - The girls these days, y'know…
The professor grabbed the papers he was carrying.
- Go clean yourself, Potter. - She eyed him suspiciously before closing the door with a bang.
2.
- I think she’ll eventually forgive you, Marls. There’s no way she would break up with you for such a silly thing.
- I don’t know, Y/N, she seemed really hurt this morning…
You gave Marlene a side hug, hoping to give her some solace. You had been comforting her since lunch, when she came to tell you about the fight she had had with Dorcas.
- Give her some time, yeah? I’m absolutely sure she’ll come around. I mean, she’s head over heels in love with you.
- You think so? - she looked up at you with hope in her red, puffy eyes
- I know so - You reassured her with a smile.
It was a windy afternoon, and a sudden intense breeze rushed through the castle’s yard, where you were walking with Marlene towards the Astronomy tower. Your scarf, loosely hanging around your neck, got carried by the wind.
- Ah, crap! - You started chasing it as it flew. Marlene started helping you, and after jogging a bit, she was able to fetch it.
- Here - she handed it to you.
When you went to grab it, her eyes seemed to notice something in the end of the scarf. A sudden rush of panic flooded you as you noticed what it was: James’ initials.
You both had left his dorm in a hurry this morning (as usual), because he made you late (as usual). You two lost track of time, and before you noticed, there was only ten minutes left for you to get ready, get something for breakfast and get to Flitwick’s class. You had gathered your uniform where you had left it ready the night before, but you must’ve grabbed his scarf instead of yours, somehow.
- Is this…? - Marlene’s hand brushed the yellow embroidered J.F.P. At first, she looked confused, but when recognition downed on her, she squinted her eyes at you with a smirk - Is this James’?
Marlene had always teased you about James, making fun of how oblivious you were to his obvious crush on you. She was one of your best friends, and you could tell her the true reason why you were with James' scarf, and she would surely be over the moon for you. You were tired of hiding your relationship, but since you hadn’t talked to James, you'd have to lie, again.
Now, you couldn’t deny it was James’ scarf, because there weren’t many James Fleamont Potters around Hogwarts, so it would be, theoretically, only half a lie.
- Yeah - You tried to conceal the sudden high pitch of your voice, granted for when you lied - It’s James’. He lent me his this morning, since, you know, it’s windy and I lost mine, uh… at the lake. It fell and I think the squid got it. You know how sneaky that little guy is, always fetching things. Anyways, thanks, Marls!
You laughed awkwardly and got the scarf away from her hands. As you tied it safely around your neck, you smelled a strong whiff of James’ scent. You didn’t know how you hadn’t noticed that you had gotten his scarf, maybe because you were already used to his scent, spending all the time wrapped around him. It would’ve been a plausible lie if you hadn’t gotten nervous and thrown all that squid nonsense in there. You felt like a kid getting caught eating ice cream before dinner. Your face burned when Marlene said in a casual tone, while clearly holding in a laugh:
- I could swear that I saw your scarf on your neck last night….

- Potter!
James lifted his head from his parchment as Frank Longbottom called out his name. You and him had been doing Potions homework in the common room, your legs resting on his lap under the table.
- I lost my prefect badge and I’m on patrol tonight. Can you lend me yours, just for tonight?
- Yeah, sure! It’s in my dorm.
You lifted your legs to allow him to get up, and he winked at you as he and Frank headed upstairs
- The room’s a mess, thanks to Sirius, but I remember I put it somewhere around… here… - James started looking on his desk for the bronze badge. Sirius, being the hurricane he was, had thrown a bunch of his things over James’ desk, so it would take some digging. - Sit down, this might take awhile.
James dug through socks, blouses, but secretly thanked Sirius for the mess: that way, it was easier to discreetly push your things into a drawer so Frank wouldn’t see. A brownish glimmer caught James’ eye.
- Ah, found it! - James turned around holding the badge victoriously.
Frank was analyzing a plushie. Not just any plushie: the teddy bear you had given James the week before. ‘It looks just like you, Jamie” you had said, while giggling “It’s cuddly”. It was a brown bear holding a heart. You enchanted it so he would sing a sappy love song every time James squeezed its belly and even sprayed a bit of your perfume on it. James had absolutely loved the gift, just as he did everything else you gave him, so much that he kept it placed safely on his bed, where Frank had seen it. Then, for James’ absolute panic, Frank pressed its belly., and the bear started belting:
And they called it puppy love, just because we're seventeen…
James snatched the bear away from Frank.
- Silencio!
When he looked back at Frank, he raised an amused eyebrow.
- That’s… Sirius gave it to me - Why that was the first thing that came to James’ mind, he had no idea. But he would have to run with it.
- A plushie? - Frank chuckled.
- Yeah, you know the guy. Does anything for a laugh.
- Even enchanting it to sing?
- Er, he… - James searched his mind for something - He goes to great lengths.
- I see, he sprayed perfume on it and all.
- Impressive lengths, really.
James gave Frank his best innocent smile. Truth was, he was tired of doing this, hiding things between you. He had been for weeks now, but he was afraid bringing it up would make you feel pressured. Frank was a really nice guy, and he was madly in love with his girlfriend, Alice, so he would surely be happy for you two, but since James hadn’t had the guts to discuss you two’s arrangement, he would need Frank to believe him, even if it was clear he was finding it all very amusing, and not buying any of it.
- I find this perfume a little familiar… Like I know someone who uses it… Probably Y/N - Frank put his finger on his chin, pretending to think while sniffing the air - But I think I’m mixing things up. Anyway, thanks for the badge, puppy love.

- It says we need to add… - Mary leaned into her textbook to read the instructions while you laborly stirred your laughing potion - billywig sting?
- Only sting? Are you sure? I remember it being billywig sting slime!
- I wrote down only “sting”, but I probably messed up.
- If we add the right one, it’ll be the laughing potion. If we add the wrong one, it’ll end up a floating potion. I just can’t remember which is which!
- Maybe we should take a look at your book. Where is it?
- Yeah, sure. It’s in my bag - You cleaned a few drops of sweat from your forehead.
Mary leaned down to search for it.
- Got it!
She placed the book between you two and started browsing through, looking for the right page for the laughing potion while you attentively observed the suspicious blue tone of your potion.
- “For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams of the beautiful Y/N”. Signed, James.
You turned to Mary in sheer terror.
If you had to determine James’ love languages, it would easily be physical touch and words of affirmation. But lately, he had taken a liking to gift giving. Between paper rings, notes, letters, origamis, even silly stick drawings he did of you two, you had quite an extensive collection sitting in a tea box on your bedside table. He couldn’t help it: the silly gifts kept you smiling the whole day through. For James, drawing stick figures or writing little poems was a very small price to pay for your smile, the one thing that lit his whole world up like sunlight. He gave you this specific one, with a customized version of a piece of ‘“Annabel Lee” yesterday, and you had forgotten to add it to your extensive collection after coming by your dorm.
You dropped the spoon you were stirring the potion with. There was no denying this. James was a clown, he always had been, but one thing he never joked around with was other people’s feelings. Everyone knew that. He wouldn’t have written you this if he didn’t mean it.
- Aww, that’s so sweet - Mary smiled at the paper.
- Mary…
- Y/N, hey, relax, alright? - She stopped smiling when she saw your eyes widen. - We all know it.
They all know it?
- Everyone sees the way you look at each other. And the people talk. Particularly, I’ve only heard people saying that you two are adorable, and some other people saying that they envy you or they envy James. It’s fine, I promise.
- But I… we tried…
- I know you tried. But listen: ever since I first met you, whenever you and James are in a room together, it’s like you’re the only two people in the world, and we are all watching. So when you started to sneak around, poorly, may I add, leaving the dorm late at night, going around with his clothes, happier than I’ve ever seen, it wasn’t hard to add things up. Also, you guys suck at keeping things secret.
You two shared a laugh. Your long forgotten laughing/floating potion bubbled in the wrongest shade of green.
- I know. But we really tried our best.
She gave you a soft smile.
- Y/N, when two people are this much in love, there’s no hiding it.
+1
You were laying down at James’ bed. It was a warm, sunny sunday morning that basked the whole dorm room in golden. James was standing by his chest of drawers, shuffling through his clothes to find his uniform for the Quidditch match that would start after breakfast. You watched the muscles on his back, the curves of his shoulder, the nape of his neck, his rebel dark hair. All the freckles on his skin that marked your favorite places to kiss.
- I can feel you looking at me, y’know. And I’m shy. - He turned his face to look at you. The movement gave you a view of his dark eyes, his glasses, the curve of his lips as he grinned, his straight nose.
- It’s not my fault you are beautiful. - You sighed.
- I’m beautiful? - He opened a genuine smile, one that showed his dimples.
- Yes.
In two long strides, he reached the bed. He sat down by your side, and his eyes scanned you lovingly, making you blush under his gaze.
- I’ll only take your word for it only cause you’re the most beautiful girl in the world.- he whispered before kissing the tip of your nose.
You two looked at each other a bit longer. The sunlight that creeped into the room made his eyes look like warm dripping honey. James was never one to be sheepish, but you could tell by the soft tint his cheeks that you looking at him like he hung the stars on the sky made him shy.
- C’mon, sleepy girl, or we’ll be late. And I can’t play without my lucky charm, yeah?
You didn’t move, and neither did him, despite his words. You leaned in, getting closer to him.
- I want to give you something, Jamie.
- Your heart? I’ll take it.
- You already have it. It’s something else. Close your eyes.
He did as told. He was so beautiful that it made you dizzy. His eyes, his mouth, his hands, his skin. Every part of him felt like home. Unable to help yourself, you kissed his lips chastely and he hummed with satisfaction.
- Is that it? - He peeked.
- No. Keep them closed.
You reached for his bedside table where you had placed the ribbon you always wore on your hair the night before. These ribbons were your trademark, and you wore them every single day. You cut up a piece with a scissor you had brought for this purpose.
You softly grabbed James’ warm hand. You placed the satiny strip around his wrist, and with a touch of your wand, turned it into a compact ribbon bracelet.
- Open.
He immediately looked down at his wrist, and his eyes instantly flooded with emotion.
- Wear it for the game, okay? For luck. And after that, too, if you’d like.
- Y/N… these are your ribbons. Everyone knows…
- I want them to know. You are the best thing that’s ever been mine, and the rest of the world should know.
James stayed silent, fiddling with his new bracelet. Panic started creeping into your chest: it hadn’t occurred to you that maybe James wasn’t ready, but it probably should. What if that was too much for him? What if…
- I get it if you’re not ready, by the way, I just… You know - You tried chuckling to lighten up the mood, but it came out humorless.
- What? No! Of course I want that!
- I don’t want you to feel pressured…
James touched your thighs, urging you to look up at him.
- Y/N, I’ve been meaning to talk about this with you for a while. I was just thinking that you are so… delicate. I’m much more… flashy.
You frowned your brows in confusion.
- What do you mean?
James opened a mischievous grin.
- It’s your turn to close your eyes.
Blindly, you listened closely to the creaking of the bed as James rose, his steps walking to the drawer, his muffled laugh.
- You ready? Open.
The sight before your eyes made you wish you had a camera to keep this exact moment forever. James was standing there, with open arms, and a white t-shirt that read: I <3 MY GIRLFRIEND.
- This is my way of going public. Ya like it?
You burst out laughing.
- You didn’t!
- You’re shocked now? Wait until you see… this.
When he turned around, you got a look at the back of the t-shirt, where there was a photo of you. Your hands flew to your mouth in blissful shock.
- James!
- So, did ya like it?
James had the biggest, brightest proud smile on his face. You jumped into his arms, still laughing.
- I… loved… it! - You kissed his face repeatedly between words. - I want a matching one, though.
- I’ll arrange it. Do you think McGonagall would let me use this as a game uniform?
- Maybe, since she will be too shocked to even answer.
- I don’t think so, after she caught me with a kiss stain on my face.
- What? When? You didn’t tell me that!
- Oh, trust me, I will. But later, cause right now I have a shirt and a girlfriend to show off.
