I think Lan Xichen was safe to Jin Guangyao in a way that nobody else was. Even though he had to hide things from Lan Xichen, he could let his guard down around him because he trusted that Lan Xichen would never hurt him. He didn’t have to worry about being attacked, physically or verbally, with Lan Xichen. Not just because Lan Xichen would never do that but also because he would protect Jin Guangyao from outside threats. I think that being around Lan Xichen was probably where Jin Guangyao felt safest.
It makes it all the more tragic that Lan Xichen is the one to kill him. But maybe it was a comfort that Lan Xichen had to be tricked to even contemplate hurting Jin Guangyao, that Lan Xichen was willing to stay with him because he never wanted to hurt Jin Guangyao. Maybe, if it had to be anyone, Jin Guangyao preferred dying by Lan Xichen’s hand.

My least favourite phenomenon is when a story leaves a lot of details upto interpretation and some people decide to interpret one character with the utmost grace and another with almost biblical hatred, then decide any other interpretation is invalid.
Very few people are truly irredeemable, and these characters are far from the worst people in fiction.

The guy and his brother were there, probably because their sect leader told them that they had to defeat a dangerous villain with dark magic, which did appear to be true because Wei Wuxian did invent a whole new type of fierce corpse and killed the heir to of of the big sects. So did they deserve to die?
Y'all need to let go of this storybook idea of good and bad. Morality is so much messier and complex.
And if MXTX really does think that Wei Wuxian is the ideal of goodness, I am allowed to disagree with her. While it is her story, she did put it out in the world, and readers are allowed to form their own thoughts and opinions based on the story she has written.
The only way to have stopped mxtx villains from doing their evil villainy was by having their respective love interest roughly pound them nightly so they couldn't commit their wicked plots and schemes. No one has time for scum and treachery when they have dick in the ass 12 hrs a night.

When we imagine someone who is protective, mostly it is a person who bursts into a fit of rage or someone who heroically and willingly throws away their own life if it means to protect others. A good example for this would be Kunikida’s actions on several occasions. Dazai is less a person to obviously show rage or to heroically throw himself in front of someone.
Which doesn’t mean that he doesn’t care at all, it’s quite the contrary. And it’s sometimes very subtle and tricky, because he always has plans within plans and tries to achieve several goals with a single plan.

I will only focus here on Dazai’s actions that solely have to do with Atsushi. I’m not going to bring up every single hidden agenda or goal Dazai is also trying to achieve.
