the real “problem with political correctness” is not that it’s considered offensive to use slurs, but that there are now many “progressive” environments where saying the right things is more important than doing the right thing. it’s why it’s so easy for abusers to gain traction in leftist circles (they learn the right words quickly and employ them to frame their own behavior as progressive); it’s why so much potential activist energy gets poured into fighting about language; it’s why moderate liberals didn’t believe fer/guson had a problem until the police emails with actual racist language were leaked. (you can do racist things, you just can’t SAY racist things.) i don’t have a neat conclusion here but a related point is that i’m so much happier since i started focusing on like, being a good kind caring person instead of trying to remove the word “crazy” from the vocabulary of everyone in my family

“I think it’s primal,” “I think it’s the way Grimm’s Fairy Tales last throughout the years. I always thought, when I read [Star Wars], I thought this is much more a fairytale than it is traditional science fiction. Because there’s a princess and a farm boy and a pirate and a wizard….We’re lucky that George was able to imbue it with such humor. I remember reading it and thinking, ‘It’s so funny!’ You know, there’s just great moments of the robots arguing over whose fault it is, the princess not wanting to go in the ship she’s rescued in. It’s so relatable! It’s so human. Here she is, royalty, and it’s like your dad picking you up in the beat-up car that embarrassed you in front of your friends. It never lost its touch with the humanity. So yeah, there was the fantasy aspect and the special effects and, of course, John Williams’ score. You can never underestimate how powerful it aided our cause. But just in terms of sheer storytelling…you know, it connects with people. It’s overall a very optimistic story. It’s really uplifting and people need that reaffirmation that people are basically good and that they will help each other. It’s about doing the right thing selflessly for the greater good and it’s reassuring, I think.” - Mark Hamill on the need for stories like Star Wars.

Life is worth it. It might have its worth hidden in small corners where you wouldn't look for it. You can find it in a book, a poem, a painting, a song. You can find meaning again in a stranger's kind actions, you can find it by being kind to a stranger because you have the meaning to do so. It is hidden in conversations you have with the ones you love, in between messages that convey how much they care for you while you allow yourself to be loved. You can pick up a hobby and find your life's meaning in it. You can find hope in a child playing with their toys. You can find meaning by helping an animal, your community, by connecting with nature and society again. It's in the little things. Don't wait around for an epiphany, a miracle or a revolutionary act. You have to search for them on the smaller things, on life's details, on living the present moment instead of thinking about living it. Then, you will see something that makes your day and allows you to keep going. Then, you hold on to life with all your heart. Hold on.
