Annabeth Chase Headcanon

Okay, much as I loved tiny jealous Annabeth in PJO (and hoo boy, did I. “I played dumb.” “Was it hard?” is just iconic, fight me), in my mind, there is no way on planet Earth that she ever gets jealous since she and Percy got together. A load of headcanons have her threatening people to stay away from him, or being really overprotective of him. But honestly, I don’t think she would do that.

Look, as we all know, Percy thinks Annabeth is pretty much the best person who ever existed. He’s got it so bad for her that while everyone else’s POVs in HOO always had her as imposing, deadly, scary, powerful, Percy is straight-up in love with this girl and can’t see anything bad about her. Annabeth has exactly the same opinion of Percy - she loves him more than anyone else in the world. While others consider him godlike and scary, she just thinks it’s cute when he does dumb stuff or makes a corny joke.

These two are so in love, you can’t tell me that either of them ever entertains for a second the thought that they might not be together for the rest of their godsdamn lives. Potentially the most revered and dangerous demigod couple out there, they are the ultimate power couple, and neither of them would dream of breaking the other’s trust under any circumstances.

Annabeth has definitely grown since she was eleven, mostly because she’s learned to accept that she can’t do everything, and that other people are important in any project or quest. She has also grown to understand that there are people who love her and that will never abandon her. Examples are: Percy, obvs; Magnus, who she thought was dead but who clearly thinks she’s cool as shit; her dad, since they’ve begun to repair their relationship; Thalia, who will never be anything less than her sister; Grover, who’s been there for her since the beginning; and the other members of the Seven, all of whom she would trust with her life.

I think that, instead of being possessive and mean, Annabeth is just really nice to anybody that she notices has a crush on Percy, particularly after what Nico went through, and she talks to them about it like equals. No matter who they are, Annabeth doesn’t get upset or angry. She doesn’t have to keep Percy on a leash to know that he’s going to be with her for the rest of their lives.

When a camper has a problem with unrequited love (Percy a lot of the time, but also in general), she’ll just sit and talk to them for hours. Not always specifically about how their crush happened, but about how our brains make us feel love by releasing chemicals, how Percy’s eyes change colour with the sea and seem fuller at high tide, what Chiron wants to redecorate at camp. She just wants them to know that their feelings are valid, and that they don’t have to apologise for it.

But by no means is Annabeth alone in this - not any more. When she talks about love and dating, she’ll ask Drew or Piper if they can sit with her and the demigod to talk it out. If the camper is having issues with their sexuality, she tags in Nico, Will, and other LGBT campers, who have a Protection Squad like no other. You mess with a queer halfblood, you better run, because they are the most supportive and defensive group in the camp by far, even more than individual cabins. If they have gender identity issues, she calls Alex in or gets Dionysus to sit down and talk with them in private. Mr D isn’t often intimidating, but any transphobic comments leave you incapacitated by a thick covering of grapevines, with the worst hangover of your life.

While everybody at Camp Jupiter (and anyone from Hotel Valhalla who’s met her) fears her, Camp Halfblood know that she’s the one who is willing to listen to pretty much anything you have to say, even if you have a crush on her boyfriend. As a much calmer and more mature young woman than the feisty eleven year old she was when she and Percy met, she’s become adored by the entire camp as “the Badass warrior girl who’s also, like, actually really cool. Her boyfriend’s the Percy Jackson, but she’s pretty much the coolest about it.”

Percy doesn’t know about the campers who have a crush on him because he’s pretty oblivious, and Annabeth keeps it private. However, he can’t help but smile when he sees a timid little ten-year-old who was staring at him while he sparring with Annabeth grin and wave madly at her. He watches her wave back and give a big thumbs-up to a fifteen-year-old nearby who’s wearing a dress for the first time and looks really nervous.

The first time he really realises something’s different is when a young teenage girl knocks on his cabin and asks if she can talk to him about her crush on Annabeth.

TL;DR - I really think that Annabeth would be a supportive big sister to the whole camp instead of jealously saying “stay away from Percy, bitch” to everyone she sees.
