Same! Feels really weird to hear it, even when they're not talking about me.

I've Finally Done It! My First Comic!

I've finally done it! My first comic!

I present Life of Lamb Episode 1: Deadnames

Because even now sometimes I encounter my deadname out in the wild and it always feels extremely *WRONG*.

I've heard the full quote as "the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb." Meaning that chosen and forged ties are stronger than just happening to be family by birth.

a lot of advice i see about being a good ally is to ask questions and learn from the lived experiences of the people you want to support. and of course i agree. but unfortunately people often interpret that as "any member of this community that i encounter is a ready, willing, enthusiastic educator on the diverse experiences of their community. i can ask them anything."

incorrect. not every marginalized person you meet wants to write you their memoir. no marginalized person you meet is obligated to be invested in your personal growth. it's no one's duty to have an elevator-pitch ready to win your support of their existence.

for just about every identity and experience you want to understand, there are known educators making content and even accepting and answering questions. difficult questions that are probably far harder for them to answer again and again than they are for you to ask. it's your responsibility to seek these willing educators out. it's your responsibility to be kind even when you're learning. so many of them become extremely burned out. and if they accept tips or any form of payment for their work, it's also your responsibility to support them in any way you can.

Saying this right fucking now.

I don’t want to see ANY of you touching that fuckass new Harry Potter series.

That woman has set us back YEARS. YEARS. And whose money is she using to do it? People who continually support her and her sorry excuse for a book series.

If you simply must watch it? Pirate. It’s not hard.

Do not give her money. Do not give her a platform. Do not contribute. Please.

Where I used to live. The arboreal-creature enrichment zones had the occasional adults only night. Where the adults were allowed to enjoy certain debilitating toxins whilst playing in the zone.

I never managed to get to one myself (I was raising small young at the time) but it was a good idea!

Galactic Forum, human guide section.

I think we found the perfect enrichment for human crew members.

Our humans really enjoyed this area we provided for them.

Galactic Forum, Human Guide Section.

They can run, fall, climb and more, to their hearts content.

They really enjoy being lifted and thrown into a large pit of foam blocks, or plastic spheres.

Note: our crew is mostly Xarnian, so we possess the necessary strength to lift the average adult human despite the density they have evolved on their deathworld.

Human larvae enjoy it the most, but even the mature humans are also thrilled by these activities.

Incidents involving "acts of human" are down 18% in the first cycle alone since we installed the enrichment chamber.

There’s a room in your house that exists outside of normal time. No one can bother you because no time passes between you going in and coming out no matter how long you’re there. Until one day someone is already there.

Capitalism requires continual growth in a closed system. In biology this is typically a virus or cancer.

Sometimes keeping things at the suitable size in equilibrium with the environment is the best way. But these people have been trained into capitalism requiring growth and always needing more.

Stick to your small businesses and I'll keep trying to go to the small independent places to buy things.

My dad raises grass-fed beef cattle and I help him sell it, mainly by maintaining an online presence. For a while, I kept having the most ridiculous conversations with people who I assume were marketing students. I didn't want to be rude so I'd try to let them down gently but this one guy just kept insisting that with his magical marketing skills he could grow our business.

What he could not seem to comprehend is that we could not grow our business, at least not without significant time and monetary investment. Cows take two years from pregnancy to the size that you can sell. If we buy adult cows, our margins become razor thin or even negative. Even if we somehow could acquire some cows, our barn and hay fields are already near maximum capacity. Renting another field would be relatively easy, building a bigger barn not so much.

Cows are living animals, they aren't widgets that can be produced infinitely. Besides that, many businesses inherently cannot grow, because if they do they'll become something else. The delicious bakery down the street cannot produce much more than they do, if they began mass marketing and production they'd eventually be selling the equivalent of Twinkies. We grow grass-fed, organic beef, if we expanded how long would that last? Eventually we'd become the very factor farms that we hate. Some things can only ever be made on a small scale and they are usually the best things.

But also, what are they teaching them at marketing school and how is it so disconnected from reality?

I picked odds, because as a group the odds contain more interesting numbers overall. For example all but one prime numbers are odd.

However, depending on the purpose I have a few favourite numbers. One that I'm enjoying more and more recently is 60, because of its unusually large number of distinct integer factors.

Plus all the standard non integer numbers like e and the golden ratio, but they can't be classified as odd or even. Perhaps that should be a secret 5th option, "my favourites are not integers". But of the three options provided I stand by my decision to pick odds.

I am spoiling the live action Lilo & Stitch. And I am doing it up front and plainly.

Do not fucking see this movie. Do not waste your money on this. Period.

They made Nani give Lilo up to the American government. They made Nani LEAVE Hawaii and pursue being a marine biologist. They made a native Hawaiian character give up her sibling to pursue a dream that she originally did not have. This is imperialist propaganda at its FINEST.

The original fucking movie is about family staying together. It's about indigenous people being able to stay with each other and stay in their home and be together! That's the whole fucking point! Nani is Lilo's last living relative on her homeland—it is jarring, it is disgusting and disturbing that Nani would not only leave her last blood relative alone, give her up to the very government that is harming native Hawaiians TODAY, but also travel to the "mainland" for her dream!

Not to mention, Nani's actress isn't fucking Hawaiian. She's much paler in photos and real life. They fucking darkened her for this movie.

Don't even get me started on the transgender subtext of Pleakley's "human" disguise from the original movie being completely erased in favor of him being played by a regular ass white man. Jumba doesn't have his accent, they made him more villainous, and his "human" disguise is a non-fat white man—which part of his original joke, I know, is that he was bigger and was more clumsy in the movie because of his size, but to have the main shape of his character completely removed is also fucking weird.

This live action movie is a desecration to the original. I encourage you to not see it, please. Don't give Disney any of your money on this one. Just watch the original. Please just watch the original.

The new message in the live action movie is disturbing and gross.

This is one of the most disrespectful live actions I've seen and heard of. I implore you to not watch it.

Do you think it would be possible to do this in reverse for minor surgery if for example someone was allergic to anaesthetic?

Like set the whole thing up, then draw with a pen where the incisions "would be" to "prepare" while the real hand actually has the operation.

I suspect the brain might reinterpret the sensation as drawing with a pen rather than being cut with a scalpel.

However, running this experiment would be probably too risky because of the damage possible if it didn't work and the patient flinched.

Given what I've heard about being stabbed in the back with a knife (it just feels like you've been punched apparently) if you don't know it's a knife, I suspect it probably would work.

Not willing to try though.

this is insaaaane, our brains are so fucking weird

“What is this all about? Why am I here?”

Prince Atalon was not accustomed to being ordered about, even less so by lower-class military generals. Yet here he was inside the command bunker of General Drak after his security detail whisked him away out of the blue.

“My apologies Prince, but I have just received troubling reports that your life is now in danger.”

This certainly wasn’t what the prince had been expecting, and he took the offered chair to sit as the general continued.

“Before I proceed, I need to ask you a question,” the general began. “Have you encountered any strange creatures, either in our quarter of the base or when touring our allies' quarters?”

“What nonsense is this?” Atalon pouted. “You say my life is in danger and then ask me about what wildlife I’ve seen?!”

“I assure you my prince, the question is related, now please answer it.”

The stern look of the general dissuaded the notion that this was some prank and so Atalon pondered in silence as he recalled his last few days.

“I spent the first three days in our section of the base meeting with soldiers in the hospital, then the fourth day was spent visiting the frontlines, and then finally the fifth day I returned here.”

“And did you encounter any strange creatures?”

“Well,” the prince replied as something did finally come to him, “on the way back my convoy drove past a group of humans being chased by a large avian bird. It came up to about their waist but the humans seemed terrified as they were running away and it was chasing it.”

“And what did you do?” the general inquired.

“I felt ashamed that such cowardly beings were our allies so I ordered the vehicle’s AI defense unit to terminate the creature and save the humans.”

“It put a plasma round clear through the creatures chest and it dropped to the ground soon after. It was so fast we didn’t even have time to stop and receive their accolades.” The prince answered with a cocky grin.

Several expressions passed over the Malin general’s face at this admission; shock, fear, regret, disbelief, and then finally, resolution.

“This was transmitted to me within the last hour.” The general continued as they spun a data pad around for the prince to see. “It is an order issued for your immediate detainment and extradition back to the human homeworld to face the charges of murder, assassination of a high ranking military official, espionage, and treason to name a few.”

“WHAT?!”

To say that the prince was dumbfounded would be an understatement.

“That avian you killed,” the general continued to delay any inevitable deluge of questions, “was in fact a Major General enlisted in the human forces here on base.”

Spinning the data pad around again the general scrolled through the information to find the correct designation. “The 304th Grenadiers were assigned as their protection detail and were the humans you saw with it.”

He looked up at the prince. “They weren’t running in fear, they were playing with them.”

“Do you not hear yourself!? The absurdity of this!?!!”

The general shook his head at the prince’s question. “It doesn’t matter how stupid this situation is, the matter of fact is the human’s take this extremely seriously that if you are caught by the humans outside of our quarter you will most likely be killed.”

“They would murder me over a primitive bird?!” the prince stammered.

Without saying anything the general selected an audio file from the pad and played it.

“You listen and you listen good,” the voice began. The prince could identify the thick grunge of a human voice and accent. “That bird your callus fuck murder has survived thirteen campaigns, and their family another three hundred and seventy three without ever losing one of their number in the field of combat until now.”

The prince made to say something but the general held up a hand and bade them to continue listening.

“The way we see it is you just offed one of our own, and you better pray that the provosts get you first and get you off world to hang; because if we get you there won’t be enough of you lift to identify by.”

With that the ominous message ended and the general looked up at the prince.

“You now understand the seriousness of this situation I hope.” He returned the data pad to his desk and clasped his taloned fingers. “There are over six thousand human soldiers part of our task force here and this message could have been sent by any of them, meaning there are now over six thousand veteran soldiers who have a potential death mark for you.”

He leaned forward to the prince, his expression removed of any levity for the situation.

“If you wish to remain alive until their provosts come for you I strongly advise you remain here and avoid any exposure outside what-so-ever; is that understood?”

“And if I refuse?” the prince asked; clinging to the notion that their position would keep them safe.

The general was about to answer when a loud chanting began echoing from outside and into the bunker. Tapping his ear piece the general asked for a status update and waited patiently as the response came in.

“Then you will not last the night, as it seems they’re already outside with a noose to hang you with.”

If they did that, then people wouldn't be trapped in their exploitation system. And they would not be able to extract unearned profits from then any more.

If You Really Feel This Way, Warn Other People Who Are Planning To Become Landlords That It's A Bad Idea.

If you really feel this way, warn other people who are planning to become landlords that it's a bad idea. Tell them to leave homes for people who actually want to live in them, and to find something else to invest in.

But you don't do that. You brag on landlord forums about how much money you make and how little work you do. You only complain when your desire to exploit others isn't quite as profitable as you would like.

I'm a she/her dad and proud of it. I was proud to be dad before I realised I was trans. I love my kids and I'll always be dad to them. However, I'm a woman (I consider myself a binary trans woman even though it's not a binary but a bimodal distribution). It does confuse people, but that is their problem.

On occasions my kids call me by my name instead if we don't feel like it's a good situation to be outed in. People get to choose the words that they are comfortable with.

At the store I was covering today a dad walked in with his kid. They were on the teen side of childhood but age was indeterminate to me. He said, “So they need a new bed.” Later he added, “Their current bed is pretty squishy.”

I glanced at the child and said, “Would I be correct in intuiting your pronouns are they/them?”

Both dad and child lit up and he thanked me for noticing.

“It’s no big deal. My wife uses they/them. It confuses people because they hear wife and assume she/her but they’re a they/them. It just sounds so much better than spouse or partner to say my wife.”

The kid was ecstatic and exclaimed, “Yeah cause that’s your wife!”

It was fully heart meltingly adorable.

And more Les Mis in the world just makes it more accessible for someone who may not otherwise be able to go see. If you can't see a really expensive professional performance where you have to travel to it, go see a local amateur group.

I've seen performances by amateurs with very little skill that were so incredibly enjoyable, often more than the professionals. Firstly, the people on stage are just having the best time, it's so exciting and they're making the most of it because their show probably only runs for a week tops. Secondly, the mistakes show they are human and you feel like you're on their side, supporting them telling this story to you. All round great experience.

All these things are natural human behaviours and we should all have opportunities to participate and watch no matter skill level or anything. Fully support this idea.

having grown up doing community theatre and then some professional shows, i genuinely believe from the very bottom of my heart it is crucial that any human with the desire to perform on a stage gets the chance as many times as they like. singing and dancing are innate to humanity yet we've made it inaccessible to all but the select few we deem "good enough" to tolerate. i think people with no pitch and no rhythm and who can't remember their lines should get to be in musicals and plays and choirs and i mean that.

and community performing arts groups & venues shouldn't have to rely on ticket sales to fund their programs. they should be paid for by taxes and freed to focus solely on engaging & enriching the communities in which they exist.

Yeah, clear warning. Plus, B didn't seek to control A's body but they just gave a warning about their response to a situation.

However, yes, if I was A in this situation I'd leave even before getting the tattoo if someone reveals such prejudice. Assuming they have a discussion and it turns out to be a true opinion of B's.

A & B have been dating for 12 months. The topic of tattoos has never been raised between them, until now. Neither party has a tattoo.

A says, "I am thinking about getting a tattoo."

B replies. "It's your body, so it is yours to do with as you please. However, I should let you know that I find all tattoos unattractive. If you decide to get one, you should anticipate that I will break up with you."
