Whumper's hand came out of nowhere, wrapping deftly around Whumpee's mouth and nose to muffle the sound of their shocked scream. "Hello there Whumpee," Whumpee murmured in their ear. "Fancy seeing you here, I thought for sure Caretaker would have spirited you away to safety by now."

Whumpee thrashed, trying desperately to break Whumper's hold. But Whumper had them securely pressed to his body. They tried not to panic, not to let their fear for themself and also for Caretaker override everything because they had to focus if they were going to get away.

Whumper drew something from the small of his back and before Whumpee could fully process what the item was, Whumper's hand flashed through the air and a searing pain invaded their senses as Whumper's blade pierced their stomach. Whumpee's scream was loud even through Whumper's hold. They doubled over, agony turning their vision red. Whumper slowly let them fall, leaning down to stroke their hair almost lovingly.

"Now, don't die to quickly, I want Caretaker here to see the light leave your eyes."

The whumpee was used to running wild and free, and they weren’t used to being in the same place for long. The whumper didn’t care, keeping them in the same cramped cage, and rarely if ever letting them out. The whumpee hates it, they felt cramped and claustrophobic, and it was almost comparable to the torture they suffered every day.

The whumpee knew that working for the whumper wasn’t a good thing, and they knew the other side would treat them much better if they just ran away- but they’re a monster. the whumper had drilled into them that they were nothing more than a weapon who destroyed anything they touched, the whumpee just didn’t believe they deserved a happy ending.

Caretakers who are usually calm and collected but one day Whumpee comes back from doing something super dangerous and they just lose their cool, shouting things like, “Do you know how long I’ve been waited for you to be back?! I thought you died!” And “Don’t ever do that again! Do you have any idea how dangerous that was?!” They only stop when Whumpee falls to the floor, crying and apologising in front of them. That’s when Caretaker knows they’ve fucked up, and they try their best to calm Whumpee down, since the last time they saw Whumpee break down like that was when they were still with Whumper.

The Whumpee’s body is so changed by captivity, that their friends don’t recognize them during their rescue. Covered in bruises, scars, blood. Eyes sunken, darting around in fear. Long hair turning white from the stress. Even their personality has become almost animalistic to protect themselves.

Whumper who is physically larger than whumpee restraining whumpee with their body.

Whumper pushing whumpee against the wall and pinning them there with whumper's hand on their wrists.

Whumper grabbing whumpee from behind and holding them tightly so whumpee can't move their arms.

Whumper pushing whumpee belly down on the ground and holding them there with one foot on whumpee's back.

Whumper holding whumpee's wrists together from behind.

Whumper holding whumpee up off the ground by whumpee's wrists, or by their ankles.

Whumper pinning whumpee to the wall and pinning them their by whumpee's throat.

Whumper knocking the legs out from under whumpee and grabbing whumpee by the hair when they fall to their knees.

today I offer you: hiding injuries!

consider, however: whumpee isn’t hiding this injury because they don’t want their team to find out they’re hurt, but because they’re afraid of what whumper will do to them if the extent of their current injuries is revealed. whumper can find them anywhere — that much has been made quite clear by now. no matter how far they run, where they try to hide, there’s nowhere that they can truly escape from whumper.

their injuries are bad enough as it is. smaller wounds, of course, nothing that can’t be hidden under loose clothing, but it’s enough for them to feel the sting of the cuts and bruises every time the skin around their joints stretches. it’s enough that they can’t escape the feeling of the wounds on their skin even days later. it’s enough that they have to put in an effort, consciously remind themself that no, they can’t go to the infirmary, because if they do it will be so much worse.

so they hide it. they stay quiet, they patch themself up as well as they can (but never too much, lest whumper suspect they had help), while the secret slowly eats them from the inside out. they can see the concerned glances from their friends, but no one will say anything to whumpee — not when the slightest question of are you okay has whumpee snapping and storming off.

(they know their friends will find out far too easily if they don’t.)

and so they hide, as slowly, not slowly enough, the injuries start to get worse. they’re harder to hide, going further down their limbs and taking longer and longer to heal each time, until finally, whumper decides it’s time to go for the face. now, whumpee is faced with a decision: how on earth are they supposed to hide the wound this time? it’s a huge bruising slice, right down their cheek — their hair can cover a good bit, but not enough to conceal this. the best they can do is put a patch over it and hope that no one asks.

but of course someone asks. of course someone corners them in an otherwise empty room, backing them to the wall with an expression of so much concern and worry in their face. of course caretaker just has to reach up and tug the edge of the patch up, just enough to reveal the edge of the barely-scabbed-over cut running down the length of whumpee’s cheek.

and of course whumpee can’t stop the tears from dripping down as caretaker holds their jaw so carefully and whispers, what happened to you?

because now that caretaker knows, whumpee knows it’s going to get so, so much worse.

That moment when Whumpee overwhelmed with the pain of their injuries, screams and yells Caretaker’s name in desperation. And all Caretaker can do to stop their agony and writhing, is gently quiet them before getting started on treatment.

The “Shh, shh, shh. I know…I know” as they take a moment to brush a hand through Whumpee’s hair or cup their cheek. Softening their features to comfort them.

just a caretaker cradling a crying, hyperventilating whumpee in their arms. whispering reassuring things and hushes in whumpees ear as they rock them in their embrace, letting whumpee know that they're safe

The whumper knew the whumpee had so much potential- so much to power held inside of themselves, and they wanted to put out that spark as soon as they could. The whumper was at the very top, and they had worked for it, they didn’t want anyone to even think about taking their status.

There’s something about the moment when the up-till-then defiant protagonist—now bound, gagged, and defeated—accepts their fate.

The antagonist stands over them, crowing gleefully over their victory. Hissing lies or taunts into their ear. Reminding them of how woefully they’ve failed.

There’s something about the moment you see the shift in the protagonist’s eyes.

The moment their head dips, hangs low.

Defeated.

Oh Oh Oh! You know what I wanna see?

Suicidal Whumpees

(This has nothing to do with my own issues shut up)

Particularly, a Defiant Suicidal Whumpee

A Whumpee who gets captured, who gets beaten black and blue, tortured with everything Whumper can throw at them, but still spits in their face at the end of the session

A Whumpee who taunts and mocks their captors at every turn, regardless of how much worse it makes things for themself

A Whumpee who acts as the biggest thorn in Whumper’s side because they won’t back down, they won’t submit, they won’t just give up like Whumper wants

A Whumpee who does all of this because they don’t care, who, when threatened with death, looks Whumper dead in the eye and says “bring it”, who’ll get the barrel of a gun pointed at their head and just lean forwards and tell Whumper to pull the trigger with a smile on their face

A Whumpee who takes everything Whumper does to hurt them and still throws insults back at them, because deep down they’re hoping if they piss Whumper off enough, if they push them too far, Whumper might actually kill them and it will all end

A Defiant Whumpee who spits in Whumper’s face and prays that this time it’ll finally be the straw the broke the camels back and they’ll be free

The whumper couldn’t believe that they managed to capture someone like the whumpee- a powerful being that was once thought to be unstoppable. There they were now, chained and broken, at the whumper’s mercy, and the whumper loved to show them off to anyone who opposed them.

We know kicked puppy and wet cat characters, but what about scared hedgehog characters? Curled up around themselves trying to protect themselves from the world with their tough appearance but really they're just sweet and vulnerable and afraid.

Characters that get aggressive and snappy when sick or injured. No fevered pleas or soft spoken confessions - just misplaced frustration and cruel comments born out of pain and confusion.

That moment when a character has just been through hell and they crack a joke to lighten the mood but their laughter turns into sobbing

Whumpee has been possessed/brainwashed, and fights Caretaker viciously.

Caretaker, who is Whumpee's closest friend/lover/family member/etc, refuses to throw a punch or use their weapon to fight Whumpee, as Whumpee proceeds to beat them to a pulp.

Even though they're being beaten close to death, Caretaker still refuses to attack; they didn't want to hurt Whumpee even though they're brainwashed/possessed.

Fatigue.

The type of fatigue you swear you can almost feel in your bones. The type that makes gravity feel so much stronger.

Character A exceeded their limit after trying to hide their fatigue from the rest of their group. But in the end it overook them, leaving them collapsed as the team worries about them.

Whump Dialogue

"I can prove myself! I can fight!"

"I'm not saying that you're incapable or useless. I just don't want to see you get hurt."

Whumpee who hasn't seen whumper in eons yet can't stand the sound of whistling. The hair on their arms and neck standing up on edge. Feeling the need to run away whenever they hear that awful sound. Always high pitched and taunting. A sarcastic modality. Sent back to a time where it meant the onslaught of pain. Caretaker picks up on it when they feel whumpee's breath hitch in the middle of grocery shopping. Immediately taking their hand...a tether they can hold onto. Whumpee grabs on, wrapping like a boa constrictor around their arm. Caretaker attempts to hurry their way through.

Touch Starved

Character who:

instinctively flinches away from the first offer of contact

pulls back before their friend/partner can touch them, recoiling like a scared animal,

then stews in regret about the instinctive movement for days afterward, thinking about the missed opportunity,

wishing they could go back and accept it

wishing they could find a way to muster up the courage to ask for it

hungry for even a trace of contact, following their friend/partner around with silent, begging eyes, needing it so badly but unable to form the words for the request...

and then finally being hugged by surprise as someone comes up from behind them and wraps their arms around them

it feels so good, they can't even breathe for a moment,

tears prickle in their eyes the moment the other person pulls away

wait, they can barely whisper,

but this time their friend/partner hears them, wraps them in their arms, and doesn't let go for the longest time -

and this time, when their friend tries to disentangle themselves, the touch-starved character grabs onto their shirt or arms and holds on, too tight to allow them to pull away again. They're not about to let go of this ever again, now that they've finally found it.

living weapons !!!!

a living weapon so heavily conditioned that they don't even talk (unless ordered to, of course.) bonus points if they're put in a mask or helmet or something, and it's ripped off in the middle of a fight to reveal their soulless blank stare. bonus bonus points if they're fighting someone they once knew

living weapons no longer used as weapons, but they're almost unrecoverable. they just don't recognize that they should have the ability to make their own decisions. they still have to be ordered to do anything, even sleep and eat

living weapons turned against people they once knew !!!!!!! now they're feral and unrecognizable but can they really be blamed for their actions when it's whumper puppeting them?

there is no relationship more intimate than that between a living weapon and their handler. it's about loving someone who would kill you without a second thought if ordered!!! someone who knows nothing but duty!!! seeing into the jaws of a monster and clinging rather than running!! you're in love with a living weapon in the same way you're in love with a fancy sword.. they're beautiful and do their job well but could slit your throat just as easily as anyone else's..

living weapons who treat their own inanimate weapons like people... hugging them kissing them biting them not letting anyone else touch or maintain or sharpen them.. mmmm

The whumpee had grown aggressive, attacking the whumper whenever they came too close and snapping at anything that got too close to them. This meant that during their rescue, their rescuers had to restrain them just to get them to safety- but not before the whumpee injured plenty of people.

whump ideas I love

Whumper infantilizes Whumpee after capturing them, not allowing them to do anything on their own, force feeding them, brushing their hair, bathing them, etc. eventually Whumpee gets used to being treating like a baby, and even though they hate it they are convinced that they have to live like this, and that they really can’t do anything for themselves. (Bonus if Whumper drugged Whumpee so that they would be unable to fight them and /or so they would be more babyish).

Whumpee has been through something traumatic before and Whumper knows everything about it. They decide to torment Whumpee by bombarding them with smells, noises and objects from the event. Maybe they spray Whumpees former abusers perfume on them or they play the sound of gunshots and crying. By the end of this torture Whumpee is having a panic attack and can barely think straight. Whumper smiles knowing they can turn Whumpee into a sobbing mess whenever they please with just a few little sounds and smells.

whumpee is restrained in an uncomfortable position and whumper teases them (ie; poking, berating, tickling, kicking, petting , etc.) so they instinctively move away from Whumper and hurt themselves even more. They keep doing this until Whumpee is in horrible and absolutely exhausted, begging them to just let them rest, and so they do, only to come back while Whumpee is asleep and start tormenting them again.

Whumper knows that Whumpee gets overstimulated easily so they constantly are touching Whumpee, getting close to them, breathing on them, making them touch gross textures, being extremely loud, stressing them out, screaming at them, putting gross smelling things near them, etc. (bonus if Whumpee used to live with a caretaker who would make sure they never got over overstimulated so this is a very jarring change.)

whump prompts I live for

When Whumpee still acts fearless and unaffected, even after being rescued/escaping from Whumper, so their friends think they’re fine. Then one day whumpee is reminded of their time with Whumper and all there suppressed emotions start coming out and their friends are freaked out because they have never seen them cry before.

when caretaker and whumpee have been friends for years and have always trusted each other with literally everything, but after whumper broke whumpee down to nothing and filled their head with lies, they don’t know who they can trust. They flinch away from any kind of contact with caretaker and won’t tell them about their trauma or let them clean up their wounds. They keep telling caretaker they can do everything themselves, until one day they can’t and caretaker has to save the day, helping to rebuild that trust.

when whumpee is distant and cold but after being given drugs to help with the pain of their wounds (Forcefully or not), they are all giggly and unable to control their own body, so caretaker has to treat them kinda like a baby as they clean up their wounds and get them to bed all while whumpee babbles incoherently. (Bonus points if whumpee ends up confessing something to caretaker while drugged, especially if it’s that they love them.)

When the Whumper is trying to break Whumpees spirit, but whumpee keeps on making jokes and messing with Whumper, even while being tortured. That is, until things get a little too…intense and everything goes really silent and oh! Is that a tear I see? Now whumpee is sobbing and begging for the whumper to stop, unable to keep up their witty appearance and absolutely hating themself for it.

Whumpee has a huge fear of vomit but has gotten super sick and needs to puke up all the stuff in their stomach. They keep telling caretaker that they are fine, even though they obviously aren’t. Their face is glossy with sweat as they swallow, hoping not to puke. Eventually caretaker has to drag them to the bathroom and force them to vomit, (ie; touching their gag reflex, pushing on their stomach, describing gross things as Whumpee leans over the toilet bowl.) much to the dismay of Whumpee who is hating every minute of this, even though they know it’s good for them. (Bonus points if Whumper is the reason they are sick, like they gave them the flu or force fed them or gave them poison, etc etc.)

the audible damage to a whumpee's voice from the harm that's come to them... hoarse and quiet from being choked, or from screaming until their voice gives out, or from crying so hard for such a long time. the raspy way everything is forced out, the way their voice cracks and squeaks, the way they wince and cringe and swallow hard before trying again. it hurts to listen to them.

I recently injured my right hand, which is my dominant hand, which made the fact that the hand was basically unusable for a few days particularly annoying. The injury was a small but deep puncture wound in the flesh of my palm between my thumb and pointer finger. It meant I couldn't move my thumb at all, and my overall grip strength was completely shot.

Naturally, I have whumpy thoughts about this.

POTENTIAL CAUSES:

Whumpee was chained up for so long that when he is freed, he can no longer feel that hand for hours

Nerve damage from any number of things

Whumpee's palm was nailed to a wooden board as her punishment

Whumpee degloved his hand in an escape attempt

Now here's the thing. Going from having an able hand to having a pained and unusable hand all of a sudden is not easy. (My grandfather, who taught himself to be ambidextrous a few years ago because he was retired and bored, would disagree. But he's a special case.) Not only are you down a hand, but you have to be really careful with the injured hand so you don't do further damage. Meanwhile, your nondominant hand is a LOT weaker than your dominant one, so it's struggling.

You'd also be surprised at the number of things that are suddenly extremely difficult to do. So, whumpy things....

Caretaker helping Whumpee shower, change clothes, fasten buttons, open and close medicine bottles, affix bandages, etc

This makes Whumpee feel any combination of embarrassed, safe, scared of the dependence, continuously surprised at the gentle treatment, resentful, etc

Whumpee tripping and automatically splaying her hands out to catch herself, then nearly choking trying to bite back a scream of pain so that she doesn't alarm caretaker

Whumper giving Whumpee extra punishments when Whumpee isn't able to do his usual tasks as well

Whumper tossing a pet Whumpee out to the streets because he's no longer as useful

Whumpee trying to do something with their non dominant hand and accidentally injuring themselves in the process

...I feel like I should do a "a body part a day" thing where I talk about various whumpy injuries
