Happy birthday to me!!
I saw something in the news today that truly took my breath away. If you have been paying attention to U.S. politics over the past few days, youāve most likely seen this woman:
This is Bishop Mariann Budde, and on Monday (Trumpās inauguration) she led an interfaith prayer for Trump and the incoming administration. During the service she asked him to have mercy for LGBTQ+ Americans and undocumented immigrants. This was badly received by the Trump administration (as expected).
After seeing headlines about this woman, I read something that I wanted to share. In 1998 a man named Matthew Shepard was murdered for being gay. Iām not going to get into the details of his death on this post, but please be warned it is extremely triggering if you do choose to read more on your own. Matthew Shepardās death caused a lot of change in the U.S. regarding how LGBTQ hate crimes are handled, and laws that were passed to protect LGBTQ+ people.
Now youāre probably wondering what Matthew Shepard has to do with an Episcopal bishop. For years after Matthew Shepardās murder, his family had held onto his remains, too scared to lay him to rest in fear of his final resting place being vandalized. In 2018, Budde had his remains interred at the National Cathedral, which is also the place where the interfaith prayer for Trump and his administration took place. The impact of this really had an effect on me. Budde could have led a non confrontational prayer service, and chosen not to mention the harm that will come to the people Trump and his administration are going after. Instead she chose to call out hate and fear in front of some of the most powerful people on the planet, and at a place that has such a large historic meaning to the LGBTQ community.
In the next few years there will be many challenges in protecting free speech, standing up against hate, and protecting those in our communities. But I would like to believe that for every Donald Trump and Elon Musk, there are people like Marianne Budde. There are those of us who canāt speak up for themselves, so itās important for those of us who can to amplify our voices, even if itās not the āpopularā thing to do.
āAnd he said you should apologize. Will you apologize?
I am not going to apologize for asking for mercy for others.ā - Mariann Buddeās response in a Time interview

I think the best most human thing in the world is strangers doing a silly thing together
if you told vin diesel fast and the furious you were gay he'd be like "Some people like driving stickā¦some people like driving automaticā¦what matters is you cross the finish line.." and then he'd rev up a dodge challenger and drive through a building and kill 16 people
Tom Brown, a 79-year-old from Clemmons, North Carolina, has spent over 20 years of his retirement tracking down rare, nearly extinct apple varieties that once flourished across Appalachia. Driven by his passion for rediscovering these heirlooms, Brown has revived more than 1,200 unique apple types with whimsical names like Brushy Mountain Limbertwig, Mule Face, and Tuckerās Everbearing.
His journey began in 1998 after encountering heritage apples at a farmersā market, inspiring him to search for ālostā apples that hadnāt been tasted in over a century. Stretching across the Appalachian regionāfrom southern New York to northern AlabamaāBrown scours old maps, orchard catalogs, and historical records, often driving hours and knocking on doors to find forgotten orchards or lone trees tucked in remote areas.
When he finds a lost variety, Brown grafts clippings onto trees in his own orchard, where he cultivates and sells them for just $15 to encourage others to create āmini preservation orchards.ā Despite the challenge of aging trees and a dwindling population of local knowledge keepers, Brown remains determined, calling the work both fun and fulfilling.
āItās a thrill to rediscover them,ā he says. āIām happy as a lark.ā Brownās mission not only preserves these apples but also honors the heritage of the region, where generations of families once prided themselves on cultivating unique varieties in their backyards.
Say what you will about David Bowie, but I don't think I've ever heard anyone besides him describe Bob Dylan's voice quite as perfectly as "a voice like sand and glue."
holy hell I just started reading In Memoriam by Alice Winn, and I've already cried like twice in the first 50 pages.
Im doomed. There's no way I'll survive this book, I can already tell
WE GOT AROMANTIC TRENDING BOYS!!!! (gender neutral)
LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
"there is no platonic explanation for this--"
I fell asleep in my friends' arms. It was eleven at night, we were tired, curled up in a small pile on my tiny bed. I had my head buried in my roommate's side, and one of my closest friend's hand on my shoulder, steadying me. It was quiet and nothingness and peace and their heartbeats in my ears, my hands in their hair.
"there is no platonic explanation for this--"
We pack four people to that little bed, you know. Laps used as footrests, collarbones as pillows, little lights like moonlight in rustic yellow bathed on their faces. The TV plays an anime. The words are repeated by my dear friend on my shoulder, curled close. My legs are asleep; my roommate may be, too.
"there is no platonic explanation for this--"
The cat curls on top of our criss cross mess of legs and arms and heads on chests to absorb the warmth of us all. She purrs in contented peace. When my roommate and I are left alone in the quiet, she cries, and watches the door for our friends' return.
"there is no platonic explanation for this--"
I will never kiss them but the top of their heads. I will never touch but the warmth of their arms. I will never take more than what's freely given, and in return I put my glasses on the bedside table fashioned from a guitar amp, and when I lean into their sides, I pick up my vulnerability and place it in their capable, tender hands.
"there is no platonic explanation for this--"
I sing for them. I cry for them. I work and I run and I withstand the worst of the world for them, because some days I get to cradle their forehead on my shoulder and some days I get to see their shining eyes.
"there is no platonic explanation for this--"
Maybe to you. But look beyond explanation. I love them. With my heart in my unsteady hands, with my nose pressed to the side of their head, with the buzzing in my feet and the warmth all around Iike the sunset pushing into the window.
"there is no platonic explanation for this--"
Is it enough to say I love them? With no strings attached? With reckless abandon and utter devotion and freedom and kindness and fear?
"there is no platonic explanation for this--"
I cannot explain it any clearer. I love my friends. There is no more to say.
Been playing Red Dead Redemption 2 recently, and boy did I miss this amazing game. My horse is named Buttercup and all the voices in my head are talking in Arthur Morgan's voice.
You know, Valentine's Day is super overrated and objectively sucks, especially for me since I'm aroace, but like. My grandma did just send me $100 so maybe it's not that bad.

You've gotta love Jews more than you hate Nazis.
You've gotta love trans folks more than you hate TERFs.
You've gotta love your unhoused neighbors more than you hate the billionaires.
You've gotta love immigrants more than you hate ICE.
You've gotta love queer kids more than you hate christian fundamentalists.
You've gotta love fat people more than you hate the diet industry.
You've gotta love disabled people more than you hate the insurance companies.
You've gotta love your fellow humans more than you hate the worst that humanity has to offer. You don't have to like every person you're fighting for, and you sure as hell don't have to give up your righteous anger, but hate is ultimately corrosive.
You've gotta love.
can someone just. explain to me what romance is. please. cause I really got no fucking clue and I wanna know but every time I google it I'm met with "picnics and dancing and stargazing and GENERALLY PLATONIC THINGS"

ACES!!! Look at this Scientific American article!!! It makes me genuinely so happy to read. Weāre making it!!!!
https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/asexuality-is-finally-breaking-free-from-medical-stigma/
am i the only one who occasionally. just. doesn't feel like a real person? Like I spend so much time daydreaming and in my own little worlds that sometimes I'll just go, "wait a second. I'm a real person. I like actually exist. Wtf."
Am i alone in that?
being a hobbyist writer means oscillating between 'i donāt care if no one reads my work, itās just for me' and 'i need my debut novel to outsell tolkien and rowling combined.'
At the gate for my flight home from visiting friends and there's a woman here with a service Shiba Inu. No pics because he has a Do Not Disturb vest and taking pics of strangers is illegal but I need to stress how ON DUTY this animal is. Ears up. Eyes doing Lazer scans of everything. Examining everyone who passes within 10ft like a security guard. Ass planted on her feet. I have never seen a dog with such intense chivalric guardian energy before. He has tiny eyebrows and they are FURROWED with concentration.
why have i not seen anyone talking about how fundamentally nihilist no man's sky is? like.
the entire story of the game revolves around the fact that the entire universe is ending soon and that you don't know how long you have left to live before everything you know and love is completely and utterly gone. and there is nothing anyone or anything can do to save it.
and yet the game tells you: go. explore. make the most of the time you have. discover new things and make friends and create wonders. not because they'll last, but because they won't. because the things you find and create are worth seeing even if no one will ever remember them.
and when the time comes? sit back with your buddy at the end of everything, pour yourself a drink, and toast to oblivion.
stop trying to make your draft perfect on the first try. your characters donāt care. your plot doesnāt care. even the imaginary readers in your head donāt care because they donāt exist yet. just write the terrible version. write the cringey dialogue and the scenes that go nowhere and the metaphors so bad they make you cringe into next week. because guess what? you canāt edit a blank page, but you can edit a hot mess. embrace it.
Happy Birthday jesus š„³
it's my birthday, bitches, love meeeeeee
Polycule but itās just two people in a romantic relationship with each other and their third whoās pretty obviously aroace but also somehow so deeply intertwined in their lives that itād just be wrong to not count them as involved. Is this anything.
People seemed to like my post about how I started burning CDs again, and @olyve-oyle requested that I make a āhow toā for people who like to have physical copies of their music, so, here you go!
Disclaimer: There are tons of ways to get music illegally. Iām not going to explain those here for legal reasons, but there are plenty of resources out there that describe how to get music off of youtube, spotify, and tidal. However, Im always going to suggest that you buy your music, if able.
Supplies:
CD-Rs (not CD-ROMs, CD-ROMs are read only disks and you cant save new data to them once they have been created)
CD-RW Drive on your computer (you can also buy one that connects to your computer or laptop since a lot of computers dont have one anymore) RW stands for Read/Write, its what lets you burn a CD
An application like itunes (free accounts are perfectly fine) Windows Media Player also works, but I personally use itunes
Optional but Suggested: Cases
Optional: Craft supplies to decorate cases
Step 1: Obtain Music
There are a couple legal ways to do this. 1. Buy a CD (I typically get mine from thrift stores or my Dadās old collection to make my own playlists) 2. Buy specific songs you want online. These can all be uploaded to you computer or itunes account
Step 2: Create Your Playlist
Any playlist will work, but itās important to know how long your CD-Rs burn for. Most typically burn for 90 minutes, so keep your playlist under that. Heres the one I used for this *Note I just threw random stuff together*:
Step 3: Burn To CD-R
Admittedly I only know how to do this on itunes, so heres images showing how, and the settings that I use when burning
Step 4: Decorate
I like to use craft paper and sharpies. Just donāt draw on the bottom of the disk

touching grass isn't enough some of y'all need to drive out to the countryside and look at the stars
I want to write a book called āyour character dies in the woodsā that details all the pitfalls and dangers of being out on the road & in the wild for people without outdoors/wilderness experience bc I cannot keep reading narratives brush over life threatening conditions like nothing is happening.
I just read a book by one of my favorite authors whose plots are essentially airtight, but the MC was walking on a country road on a cold winter night and she was knocked down and fell into a drainage ditch covered in ice, broke through and got covered in icy mud and water.
Then she had a āmiserableā 3 more miles to walk to the inn.
Babes she would not MAKE it to that inn.
No, because what do you mean Arcane has completely rewritten the rulebook on queer representation in media, and it did it so effortlessly that it puts so many other shows to shame. Like, how are you going to tell me this animated seriesāostensibly a spin-off of a video gameāhas given us some of the most nuanced, unapologetically powerful sapphic characters ever without reducing them to stereotypes, side plots, or, worse, trauma porn?
Vi and Caitlyn? Their dynamic is ELECTRIC. Youāve got Vi, the rough-edged, fiercely loyal, scrappy brawler with a tender side that could wreck anyone emotionally, and Caitlyn, the sharp, principled, deeply empathetic enforcer with a heart of gold. The way their relationship is built on mutual respect and trust while navigating all the insane, tragic chaos around them? Literal chef's kiss. And not once do we get the tired, lazy "coming out" narrative or the "but what about the gays?" rhetoric. Their queerness isnāt the storyāitās just a beautifully natural part of who they are. And THAT is revolutionary.
And letās not even stop there. This show handles gender like itās been waiting for everyone else to catch up. Characters like Sevika, who could give you chills with her sheer badassery and gender-nonconforming energy, exist unapologetically without the narrative ever feeling the need to spoon-feed us explanations. Itās just there, woven seamlessly into the fabric of the world.
So many shows claim to want to "normalize" queer relationships or push the envelope, but Arcane has quietly dominated the space by just writing characters who feel authentic. Their struggles are about class, power, loyalty, trauma, not token representation or forced diversity. This show said, āWeāre just going to make some of the most layered, compelling characters youāve ever seenāand oh yeah, some of them are gay. Keep up.ā
Like, the bar wasnāt just raisedāit was launched into the stratosphere. What do you mean this level of representation isnāt the norm yet? Arcane said, āWeāre not asking for permission to exist. Weāre just existing.ā And that? That is art.
