something rattles in the office. the call tone repeats. a loud, high pitched squeal, and a pre recorded message. it starts to fade as it goes on, as if whoever is on the other line has bad reception, but they don’t. it’s a call tone, a voicemail. a beep sounds, and the phone lying against the floor rattles once again.
